Epson Printer Ink Cartridge

Your Epson printer is working great and has been able to handle every project and file you throw at it with ease, from research papers and airplane tickets to coupons and photos for the family album. However, there will come a time when the error message pops up on the printer, saying that the ink cartridge needs to be replaced. It may seem daunting to find and select the correct replacement cartridge for your Epson printer, but this task can be quite simple with some basic information about your printer.

Is a toner cartridge the same as an ink cartridge?

Oftentimes, toner and ink are used interchangeably in regards to printer cartridges; however, this is incorrect as these two products are used for different types of printers. Toner is used in laser printers, which print images by creating an electrostatic charge that causes it to attach to the paper based on the template etched by a laser. Inkjet printers use ink cartridges, and these work by utilizing a large number of microscopic ink nozzles that create an image by dropping many small ink droplets on the paper as it moves through the printer. The two also differ in their physical appearance as toner is a powder and ink is in liquid form.

What colors do Epson's ink cartridges come in?

Epson inkjet printers that only print in black and white utilize a single cartridge of black ink for obvious reason. On the other hand, the vast majority of color printers use the CMYK model, which stands for cyan, magenta, yellow, and key. Cyan ink is a bright blue color, magenta is a pinkish-red, yellow is a vibrant yellow, and the key is black in color. By combining cyan, magenta, yellow, and black, all other colors can be produced. Some high-end models may incorporate extra color cartridges as well. Depending on your Epson printer model, these color cartridges can be sold individually or may come as a combined pack.

What is Epson's EcoTank feature?

EcoTank is a new Epson ink option that eliminates the use of ink cartridges on all the Epson products that utilize it. Instead, these Epson models utilize supersized ink tanks, which can be easily filled by the customer, that are located on the outside of the Epson unit. Each printer comes with enough extra replacement Epson ink bottles to last for upwards of two years.

What are OEM Epson cartridges?

OEM stands for original equipment manufacturer, and this term is used when discussing inkjet printing. An OEM refers to the original or replacement ink cartridges that are produced by the same manufacturer that created your printer. For each Epson printer, OEM cartridges are ink cartridges that are also produced by Epson.
