- The Honda's control arms connect the body and suspension of your car, making sure that the bumps in the road do not get translated to the interior of the car. Instead, the control arms allow for wheel movement via the ball joint, transmitting vibration to the cushioning system.
- Another function of the control arms is to maintain alignment between the wheels and the body of the Honda. Because there is a large metal strut that is the majority of the control arm essentially connecting the body and the cushioning system, the system is able to ensure that the disks stay at the correct angle even when traveling over rough surfaces.
- Potentially the most important function of the control arms in the Honda Element is their ability to allow for vertical movement. The ball joint is part of the control arm, and it is designed to allow for restricted movement of a ball inside a socket. Instead of the entire system being locked in place, the ball joint allows it to move up and down.

- Ball joint: Perhaps the most ingenious of the parts used in Honda arms is the ball joint. This system, also known as a ball and socket, works by containing a small ball inside of a larger socket. The ball is also connected to the suspension and body. When there is movement in the disks, the ball is able to move but is restricted somewhat by a rubber or plastic cover. This allows the wheels to move vertically without you feeling that movement in the car.
- Arm: The largest part of the kit is the arm itself, which is a large metal strut. This strut connects the cushioning system and body, dampening movement and keeping the Honda in proper alignment.
- Bushings: The bushings keep all of the other parts securely in place. There are usually three bushings per control arm, with one at the ball joint and two at the other ends.
