Complete Engines for MINI Cooper

MINI Coopers have been around since the year 1959. This small, economy vehicle offers good performance and classic British style. Replacing the complete engine is a good way to extend the life of your MINI.

What type of engine does a MINI Cooper have?

Vintage MINIs were produced by the British Motor Corporation until 2000. These used a number of different I4 motors. The original ones used the following I4 sizes: 848 cc, 970 cc, 997 cc, 998 cc, 1,071 cc, 1,098 cc and 1,275 cc. The newer versions made by BMW still use I4s but have now added turbo variations as an option for buyers. They come in both petrol and diesel versions. You can tell which type a MINI has by their full name. The MINI Cooper S uses regular gasoline while the MINI Cooper D requires diesel fuel.

How many miles should an engine last for?

MINI engines made by BMW should last at least for 200,000 miles if well maintained. It is not uncommon for MINI drivers to put over 300,000 miles on their car before a rebuild or replacement becomes necessary. A vintage MINI's original one may only last for around 100,000 miles, but a new replacement should last much longer.

Is there a break-in period for MINI Cooper engines?

New complete engines are broken in at the factory. There are no major break-in periods or rules you have to strictly follow. Do not accelerate quickly to the vehicle's top speed. Do not allow your MINI to stay in the same, high gear for an extended period of time.

Who makes the MINI Cooper engines?

BMW designs and manufactures the ones made for MINIs produced from 2000 on. Models made from 1959 to 2000 were made by the British Motor Corporation, or BMC for short. These versions were created based on the original designs of John Cooper.

High Performance Synthetic 5W-30 is the recommended choice of oil for MINI Cooper owners. This is the standard type of oil that BMW puts into the car at the factory once it is completed. This is also the type recommended in the owner's manual for use with your MINI Cooper.
