Collectible Scales

This is a really nice antique portable coin/bullion balance in an unusually sophisticated and very attractive mahogany box. It has hinges fitted at an angle that give the lid a feel of being sprung as you open it, and they prevent the lid going beyond the vertical position.

This Scale balance is made of brass, set on wooden base. It is very good idea for classy gift. Very effective decorativeitem for office, desk. The item is handmade so there may be slight imperfections.

It has its two matching weights in very good condition, each with a Lion check mark. The case is unusually well preserved and the hinge is good and it closes well.

A set of 18th/ early 19th century traveling coin scales that would have been used to weigh sovereigns or guineas to check that they were "worth its weight" in gold. Two have "G III R" for George the third (1760-1830), and one is lettered - "Coined before 1772".

SET OF ANTIQUE BRONZE CUP WEIGHTS Signed with makers mark IM late 18th century, circa 1800, but please make up your own mind about this. The weights are made in the Nurenburg manner, which means that each weight (including the outer case) is designed to weigh exactly the same as the rest of the weights which sit inside it. Thus a matched pair of weights would always be at hand. 1 1/2 inches (40mm) tall by 1 3/4 inches (45mm) in diameter, made from cast bronze or brass. The weights are unmarked and weigh 226 g 112g 56g 28g 14g In total 440g The set is in good original condition, with no damage or repairs. The inner weight is missing. In a good antique condition with only minor associated age wear .. Brass with a solid lump of lead inside with small lead slices which are removable .. Please see description and photos below.

This is a beautiful SET OF ANTIQUE SHOP COUNTER BEAM SCALES by the well known firm of weighing instrument manufacturers W & T AVERY BIRMINGHAM mid 19th Century, circa 1870-1880 19 1/2 inches (500mm) tall by 16 inches (400mm) wide, by 8 1/2 inches (220mm) deep, Solid brass, mounted upon a polished mahogany slab base. They are in very good original condition with light wear consistent with their age, but no damage or repairs. They are named W & T AVERY MAKERS BIRMINGHAM on either end of the beam. GREAT CASE OF ANTIQUE BRASS GRAM WEIGHTS by the well known scientific instrument manufacturer MAW & SONS LTD In my estimation they date from around the early 20th century, but please make up your own mind about this. The mahogany case measures approx 4 1/2 inches (115mm) by 3 inches (75mm) by 1 3/4 inches (45mm) tall. The brass weights are marked 100 GRM 50 GRM 20 GRM 10 GRM 10 GRM 5 GRM 2 GRM 2 GRM 1 GRM The tiny foil, part gram weights are grubby, and the values are not legible, (see photos) The set is complete with its brass tweezers. The base has attractive ornate floral and foliage decoration in an Art Nouveau style, typical of the period.

Jiffy Way Egg Scale. Great reproduction example of the Brower egg scale. The scale does function, just not sure it is very accurate. We specialize in high quality reproduction antiques. Many of these reproductions were inspired by actual antiques and can be found in many antique reference books.

There are a variety of markings including a strange one on the 0.5 ounce weight on the right side of the top row. They are all in very good uncleaned condition.

Wonderful piece of history!

This is a rare pair of early antique troy weights each marked with 12 dots and weighing 12 grains, or 1/2 penny weight each. I have checked the weight which is still correct.

This antique balance scale is a great art piece.  It still works and is very pretty when completely cleaned and polished.  There are two flaws present.  One foot has lost the screw to hold it in place, but a replacement could be ordered online.  There is also a crack in the Marble.  Due to the flaws, the price for such a piece has been reduced.  I have seen similar balances in antique sales for more than $400.00   It is still very beautiful and has a lot of character.  It is 22 inches tall and is 14.5 inches wide.  The balances dishes are about 6 inches.  Let me know if you have any questions.

And I have pulled and shaken most of an old wasp's nest out of the housing, but there is still a small bit inside that does not seem to impede the operation of the scale. Complete with hang chains and a slightly rusty tin scoop-style pan.

Including a mint condition scoop, original chart and new pointer. All hand pin striped. automotive paints and clear coating. Correct decals applied, and then clear coated again to. protect all the decals and striping so it never comes off.

Shown is a solid brass bilateral "Columbus" letter scale mounted on a 5 5/8" by 3 5/8" marble base. In good and working as found condition, consistent with its age normal and expected wear is present as shown.

Followed by "model 217 f". The scale has a base fitted with 2 levelling screws and a spirit level. The weighing mechanism has an oil damper and is marked by a calibration plate fixed by the government agency "Ijkwezen".

A rare Wrigley's Jr. candy scale with original scoop. scoop it turns the wheel and that is where you read the total for the sale. Pin striped just like it was originally done.

This was made in Chicago by Pelouze. As you can see, the basket is removable from the scale so if you would like to paint the basket it would be easy. It does look like the basket was blue at one time and you can also see the natural wicker color coming through right there at that corner edge.
