About Antique Fire Extinguisher
At first, fire extinguishers were as simple as a bucket in each home, dedicated to the cause so that householders could toss them out to volunteer firefighters in times of need. After many years, inventors created what is now an antique fire extinguisher, the precursor to today's modern ones. These fire extinguishers featured a glass vial that contained acid, surrounded by a base solution. When tilted the right way, the glass broke, releasing fire-fighting chemicals. The first style was an antique copper fire extinguisher, because copper was quite common. The copper type was eventually replaced, in the 1940s, by the antique brass fire extinguisher. Soda and acid fire extinguishers went out of use in the late 1960s when other types fire extinguishers replaced them. Now, these older versions are highly collectible, particularly if they still have plates attached that give you information about the extinguisher. Within the vast inventory on eBay, you can find just about any type of antique fire extinguisher that interests you. Some of the oldest ones may even be intact and in amazingly good condition.
