Great for beginners-perfect compliment to kit lenses
Let me start by saying that I am a beginner. About 2 months after I started using my Rebel t1i, I realized that the kit lens doesn't do a whole lot and rally wanted something better for taking portraits and nature shots. I purchased two lenses to complement my kit lens and this was one of them. It has basically become the lens I keep on my camera at all times anymore. It has enough of a telephoto to create awesome bokeh in portrait shots and enough of a wide angel at the close end to be usable at a short range. It's a great lens if you don't have $500+ to spend and are a beginner like me. It's quiet and quick on autofocus and the manual focus ring is in the back, unlike my other lenses which makes it much easier to hold. Be careful though. There are two variations of this lens- make sure you buy the one that says Macro on it. It's a much better lens.
Anyway, definitely a steal for the amount paid. You'll love it, and it'll vastly broaden what you can do with your DSLR. Why did you spend that much on a camera to be limited by the 18-55 kit lens's capabilities?
