Worse than Watergate, INDEED!

Worse than Watergate? John Dean, someone who would know claims yes, indeed the Bush administration's criminality is far worse and then tells you exactly why and how. In chapter after chapter and detail after outrageous detail Dean fills in the picture on their misdeeds, crimes and even treason. Dean begins with walking the reader through the Nixonian tendencies and tactics within the current White House cadre and focuses attention on Cheney and his own secret Presidency behind and within the Bush Presidency. He then outlines the secrecy that the administration engages in as well as the stonewalling against any and every attempt at oversight. In the smallest of issues the Bush/Cheney duo resists accountability, rebuffs questioning, refuses explanation. Cheney believes in an Imperial Presidency, something that started when he was a member of the Nixon administration along with Donald Rumsfeld and other key members of the Bush circle. Many of these insiders formed and/or are members of the Project for the New American Century. (PNAC) www.newamericancentury.org PNAC is the neocon manifesto one might say. The document found at the link provided lays out their philosophy and agenda as well as their understanding of how to fulfill their aims. Basically they intend world dominance by the United States through military might if necessary.Dean takes a look at PNAC and its aims through the lens of 9/11 which was a tragic but fortuitous event for this administration given the neocon/PNAC agenda. In reading the book the scope of possible illegalities and yes, treason by these people begins to boggle the mind. For myself I would find myself muttering "these bastards" and other choice comments. By the end of the book the one word that kept coming up for me was and is "evildoers." there sis so much more to say about this book but nothing I could say would prepare you for the stunning effect these revelations have on the reader when taken all together. What I mean by that is we know or have heard much of what is in this book. We don't know all of it and we don't know many of the details. What thisw book does is take all of these thinks we know, don't know, or have heard bits and pieces of and put it in one place with all the footnotes you could want providing the sources and proofs. Unfortunately so much is revealed about this administration, so many misdeeds and mistakes and scandals that it isn't possible to remember them all. Dean puts it all together and as you read you remember and you take it all together and the effect is devastating. Is this my country? Is this my government? Why haven't the Congress done anything about it?. The book was published in 2004 and as we know so much more has happened since. We know more, and yet nothing at all which is how the current Cheney cabal want it.As we are finally coming to the end of their reign one can only wonder what the next President is going to find waiting for them for if we know so much how much has been buried, hidden? What will the next President inherit and how will they deal with it? Will there be an accounting to the American people or will, in the interest of national security interests everything be buried? Dean's meticulous accounting of what was done and known up until its publication makes you hope for a sequel, makes you wish for justice and makes you hope that whoever sits in the Oval office next will have the fortitude to allow an accounting to take place. Read this book!
