Vincente Minnelli Directed, Great Acting
Post WWII drama set in a small town where apparently no one can keep a secret, and appearances count for more than actions. I was not familiar with this film, and watched it for the Sinatra/Martin pairing. What I found was that Shirley MacLaine absolutely stole the show. Her character was disreputable, but moral; tawdry, but at the same time touchingly sweet. It plays well against the hard boiled characters portrayed by Frank and Dean. And in the end, both men are transformed by knowing the ill fated girl.
The film touches on issues of the time that are still relevant today. I recommend this film wholeheartedly.Read full review...
Some Came Running
This is one of my all time favorite movies. Even though this movie is 50 years old it still is an excellent story of three "supposedly" social misfits that become fast friends that ends in tragedy. Shirley McLain earned her first academy award nonimation for this film. Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin are at their best in this movie. This movie shows the hipocracy of our society at the time the story takes place. I liked the whole story and this movie was a smash hit when it came out in 1958 and remains a favorite to this day.Read full review...
truly a great learning of abusive power.
Fantastic movie about an era that defines this nation with the roles of leadership and organized crime. It shows a very detailed analogy of political pressure and law less means.
