Capabilities are exciting.

The range of this lens is what you will need from sun up to sun down. A single fast prime or wide angle, depending on your usage, will give you everything you need in a lean light kit. This lens will auto focus on all of Nikons modern cameras, including the entry level models. It is intended for the FX (full frame) bodies, but gives a bit more reach on the crop sensor DX cameras. I use it on a D7100. I tend to use the longer rather than wide angle abilities, so the 28mm increased to 42mm and 300mm to 450mm (allowing for the 1.5 crop sensor) is outstanding for my purposes. The images are sharp and the image stabilization works well for hand held shots throughout the range in reasonable light. In the photographic world is is not a "fast" lens, with todays digital cameras it is fast enough for a vast range of photographic opportunities. Without stepping up to pro lenses costing far more money there is much that can be done with this wonderful lens. It is one of Nikon's great values.Read full review...

All Purpose Lens

I have a number of excellent lens, but was looking for a multi-purpose do-all lens. This fit the bill. You can get quality images from this lens and it has great range. I shoot with a D-750 and this lens compliments it well. If you can only take one lens with you this would be a great choice. It covers a wide range and will give you very good results. Is it perfect? No, what lens covers everything? Nevertheless, this can do most things well. You will not be disappointed. It is big and somewhat heavy to carry all day, but if you can handle it you will be satisfied.Read full review...

The one lens.

This is really the only lens most non-professional Nikon camera owners will ever need. Sharp and easy to use. Even your snobby lens collecting other Nikon friends will agree: they didn't really need much more than this.Read full review...

The lens is great

The lens works great! Everything was as promised. And the company shipped it quickly and I would definitely buy from them again. No second thoughts at all.

Dr GoodZoom or how I quit keeping pro glass and learned to love a good zoom

This is a fantastic walk around lens. While optically it doesn't quite match the contrast and speed of my other 2.8 or 1.4 lenses, for ease of use, and range it's great. When in decent light it allows me to just mount this on my D600 and go. I keep a 50mm just in case for low light, but very rarely need it. Simply a good lens for the money.Read full review...

My best, next, new lens for my Nikon D300

It was a good price for a new AF-S 28-300mm Nikkor lens. The seller packaged it well and securely with all that he had promised. It arrived quickly (within a week during the Christmas-New Year period. I could be happier, of course, but the lens will have nothing to do with it! Still, I am a happy critter!Read full review...

Once again Nikon delivers an Excellent Lens

I use the lens mounted to a Nikon D700.
This is a fantastic all purpose lens for Nikon's full frame 35mm or FX Format digital cameras. The ability to zoom from 28mm to 300mm and carry just one lens (for the most part) is an outstanding asset.
Really the only downside to this lens is the relatively slow maximum aperture. However with a moderate amount of natural light (or a higher ISO or a flash in very dark situations) it performs flawlessly.

I think it is a perfect lens for a vacation, only one len instead of severa

I bought it for my trip to Hawaii and wasn't sure about the quality but was pleasantly surprise. Yes the aperture was a problem in low light but compensated by shooting a higher ASA. Pictures of me turned out great!Read full review...

Heavy lens that could take the place of several lenses on a trip,

I just came back from a week in the mountains with the lens mounted on a D800. The lens is heavy, but it will take some amazing shots. At 28mm with the lens hood attached there is vignetting. This goes away at 35-40mms.

I was impressed with the VR. This was a newer model lens, and I could shoot handheld at 1/10th of a second at 100 ISO with no blur.

Camera Travel Companion - must have!

Very nice lens.....I wanted to step up from 18-200mm and so this was logical choice. 8 ozs. heavier but I will take on a short vacation soon to try extra weight around neck while walking 8- 10 miles a day. Value couldn't be passed up when found for $800 brand new on Ebay.Read full review...
