Blackberry Curve 8530 is a Great Phone

I had used a blackberry curve 8330 with cricket and really loved the phone but decided to switch to the 8530 since it would be able to take advantage of cricket's blackberry plan where features such as apps, email, and such would work. The 8530 is a great phone and is a little more powerful than the 8330. I like the fact it has WiFi and the trackpad is much better than the old trackball. Due to the added features of the phone, the battery does not hold a charge as long as the 8330 did, but using an extended battery gives plenty of battery life while still allowing the use of all the extra features. Call quality is great, the keypad is easy to use, web browsing is pretty quick, and media quality such as music, photos, and videos are great as well. The camera takes great photos and video, but I do wish blackberry had not taken away the flash feature that the 8330 had but this phone does not. The location of the mini sd card slot is much more convenient than the 8330, you still have to remove the battery door to access it, but no need to remove the battery and wait for a re-boot and no tricky latch to deal with, it simply slides into it's slot and slides back out. All in all this is really an excellent phone especially if you are on the cricket network due to the limited choice of phones that will work with all the additional features.Read full review...

Used phone but in great condition

I bought the used Blackberry Curve 8900 knowing that it was a used phone as was clearly stated on the seller's description. The screen is clear, clean and has no scratches. The phone is updated and fast considering it's used. Camera quality is good as expected. Like with any other blackberry, initial setup takes time and a bit of technical understanding of the terms used is needed. Manual and user guide didn't come with the product so i had to search for it online which is relatively easy. Qwerty keypad feels great while typing.Weight and size of the phone doesn't strain the hand after extended use. Clear reception during calls. Wi-fi connectivity detection is at par with other wi-fi enabled smartphones. Menu layout needs to be customized to suit the user's needs. There is no option for timed automatic screen/keypad lock. Profile customization is a bit confusing. BBM is great but will not function without a data plan. Overall the learning curve is a bit high if you're coming from a touch phone such as an iphone or an android phone. But if you're looking for a blackberry that does the basic that comes with a few extra then this is the one for you.Read full review...

Not satified completely till I have a Blackberry

I love the old style with a new twist blackberry 8900. I recently broke mine a few months back and i have been trying to find the same model blackberry everywhere for the low. Unfortunately, it was very hard. Hell, I even looked on EBay and didnt see any that was in my price range or good condition to purchase. I love the wi-fi feature period!! The thing that got me was the trackball style when I bought my first blackberry. I just cannot get use to the touchscreen or touch pad technology. I have no problem with it (I was using a iPhone as the replacement phone for a while, so I got use to it), but that just how I am...Read full review...

Very satisfied, but if WiFi Calling is a necessity, be a smart shopper.

I purchased this product for a busy work life, as the company issued me a Blackberry Bold, which created difficulties I couldn't adjust to. Unfortunately, I returned this particular device because it didn't have the WiFi Calling feature that is a feature specific to T-Mobile, not AT&T, which is the carrier this device originated from. However, I have since purchase an 8900 off Ebay that did originate from T-Mobile, and I am very satisfied. If your used to a Blackberry Curve and are very happy with it, I'd recommend sticking with a Curve, rather than changing to a Blackberry Bold, which it seems is where T-Mobile has invested most of it's R and D and pushes as it's preferred device. As far as this device, I'm thrilled with it, as it feels like I've be re-introduced to an old friend that has enhanced features (maps, better camera, faster web) from my previous 8300 model.Read full review...

RIM BlackBerry Curve 8900

We bought the NewPhone 8900 one week ago and was immediately impressed with the number of features available on this inexpensive phone. It has a 3M-pixel camera, video camera, and speakerphone. The NewPhone's size is perfect for carrying in a pocket and the battery has a pretty good lifespan of roughly 48 hours.

Blackberry curve 8900 opinion

I love this phone. This is my first blackberry and I made the right decision by picking this phone. The curve 8900 is sleek and stylish and was within my price range.I also wanted to get away from touchscreen phones so this was the best choice. The camera and sound quality are great. I can hear people very clearly even on speakerphone. This phone has wi-fi, which is a plus. Suprisingly, the bb8900 battery life is great. I don't have to charge it everyday. I would recommend a blackberry to anyone, but most of my friends already have one. I really don't have any complaints about this phone.Read full review...

blackberry rim 8900

almost perfect just one thing, is not 3G only edge. if you can live with that this is the one.everything you need in this phone you got it except its not a touch screen phone and you have to know how to use it, so you have to read the instruction in the web, once you learn how to use it its all easy, one more thing this phone is a business type phone but you can do almost anything in this phone just add more memory up to 32gb thats right so enjoy this phone while its out...Read full review...

You do not need to sell your soul (buy an iphone)

Personally, I believe tactile interfaces are a waste of battery. I might succumb to their allure someday, but for now I prefer to keep my fingers of the screen and my charger tucked away for about a week at a time. That said.

I will skip the list of features, since you can find them anywhere and stick to some more nuanced impressions. Buy this product unlocked. I have used it with both a Cigular simcard and an Orange simcard. Absolutely no problems. There are some features like GPS and push email that will not work unless one subscribes to a data plan. As a student I don't produce that kind of income, so I do not use those services. One can use Pandora with the WiFi though. The Wifi support is great, but be aware that if your network requires some kind of application for access on your regular PC (like CleanAccess) then you will have to ask the network administrators to allow your phone to bypass the security when using the internet.

The battery life is completely dependent on usage. It will last about 2 days for some heavy duty usage. About 3 days for regular usage and about 4 days for light usage. Be advised that the yellow (low) and red (drained) battery notices last a long time, so don't fret the moment the indicator turns yellow.

I have the Blackberry synced with Outlook which is synced with Gmail Calendars. So the device is a great portable agenda. It can sync via Bluetooth or the data cable. I have issues sending files from my computer to the device, however I believe this is more of a personal problem with vista and my Bluetooth module (I own a Dell M1330, amazing machine, different story), however, I can stream music from the device to my computer via bluetooth. Call quality is excellent, user interface is easy to understand and everything has options to be tweaked.

Use the Desktop software provided with the device, it is useful and may be the best way to sync with Outlook or a couple of other supported applications. There are now fifty trillion applications for Blackberry, but most of the ones available have a purpose. It is also great to be able to increase memory with the Micro SD card reader. Unfortunately applications are saved to the on board memory, which is not trivial, but it is fixed.

Once again, buy this product unlocked. This model has a Simcard slot (some Blackberry's do not) meant for "business travel abroad", but once unlocked you can use it with any carrier in the US or Europe (I can attest to these two). I would buy it again. Ebay is your friend, as are unlocked products.

The phone rocks!

I upgraded from my old Curve 8300. All BlackBerry's rock, but this is excellent. Amazing camera, super-fast CPU (512 MHz.) for a phone, beautiful screen, great case, easy to use. I just wish that having Wi-Fi meant that when it's unlocked, you could browse the internet. Screen scratches somewhat easily, so get a good screen protector.

I love it. I'm a BlackBerry fan for life! Find a good deal and get a BlackBerry - no questions asked!

Blackberry Curve 8900

First time blackberry user and very pleased. I love this phone. It's easy to use and very convenient. I strongly recommend this phone to someone who's not into the touch screen or slider trend. The buttons take a little bit of time getting used to(they're pretty small--and i have small fingers), but no trouble working the phone itself. The wifi is a bit of a let-down, being that you have to go through a process of receiving and sending codes to verify, making the local stops at wifi gas stations, restaurants, ect. non accessible. Overall, great phone! I'll be keeping this one for a while.Read full review...
