Washington Nationals Tickets
When the Washington Senators became the Texas Rangers in 1972, the nation's capital lost a piece of its historic baseball past. For decades, the District of Columbia hungered for a new team, and fans got their wish in 2004 when the Montreal Expos moved south to become the Washington Nationals. Since the organization was founded in 1969, the team has never been to a World Series. However, the Expos did have the best record in baseball during the 1994 season, which was eventually canceled due to the infamous strike of that year. Despite their past disappointments, the team has had many great players on their roster over the years, including Gary Walker, Andre Dawson, Moises Alou, and Pedro Martinez.
Nationals Park, Home to the Washington Nationals
Nationals Park became the home stadium for the Washington Nationals baseball team in March of 2008. It seats more than 41,000 fans and is located next to the Navy Yard on a 25-acre site along the Anacostia riverfront in Washington, DC. The stadium's upper decks offer scenic views of the Washington Monument, the Capitol building, and other national landmarks. Built as a showcase of modern technology and design, Nationals Park features a 4,500-square-foot high-definition scoreboard and is a certified green building.
Washington Nationals and the National League East
Since the move to the United States, the team has struggled to compete in the National League East, finishing last in five of the six seasons from 2005 to 2010. As a relocated team, the Nationals have not been able to develop a strong rivalry with any of its main divisional competitors. However, thanks to its proximity to Baltimore, the Nationals do play the Orioles every year in the "Beltway Series" during interleague play.
Washington Nationals 2012 Team Outlook
For the past several years, the Washington Nationals have been quietly building a solid team that may finally be ready to compete in 2012. Although Jayson Werth did not play as well as expected in the first year of his $126 million deal, the Nationals still have a potent offense with players like Ryan Zimmerman and Michael Morse. If uber-prospect Bryce Harper makes the team out of spring training, that will give the Nats another big bat in the middle of the lineup. As for the starting rotation, it should be bolstered by the trade for Gio Gonzalez and the return of Stephen Strasburg, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery. If everything goes well in 2012, the Nationals may be one of the surprise teams of the year.
