Stanford Cardinal Tickets
The Stanford Cardinal have played college football since 1892 and have the distinction of playing in the first ever Rose Bowl in 1902. Stanford joined the old Pacific Coast Conference in 1918, and that conference has slowly grown into the Pacific-12 conference that Stanford plays in today. Stanford has claimed the 1926 national championship and a total of 12 conference titles. Stanford was at two BCS bowl games: the 2000 Rose Bowl and the 2011 Orange Bowl.
Jim Plunkett, a former Stanford quarterback, won the Heisman Trophy in 1970. Stanford has had two runner-ups to the Heisman in two consecutive years. Toby Gerhart finished behind Mark Ingram in 2009, and Andrew Luck finished second to Cam Newton in 2010.
Stanford Stadium Tickets, Home of Stanford
Stanford Stadium completed a reconstruction in 2006 and currently seats 50,000 people after having space for 85,500 from 1927 to 2005. The renovation was done to make the stadium more intimate for the size of crowds that were attending recent Stanford Cardinal football games prior to the change. In addition to the Big Game played against California at home every other year, the stadium has also hosted the Super Bowl in 1985, games of the 1994 FIFA World Cup and games of the 1999 Women's World Cup.
Stanford Cardinal Big Game Rivalries
Despite the annual rivalry with Notre Dame for the Legends Trophy, the Stanford Cardinal compete against the Cal Golden Bears annually in the "Big Game." The first meeting between the two schools occurred in 1892 with the Stanford Cardinal winning 14-10. Since that game, the teams have met 113 times, giving the Cardinal a 56-46-11 advantage in the series.
One notable game between the Golden Bears and Cardinal was the 2010 "Big Game" when #6 Stanford knocked off Cal in impressive fashion 48-14. This gave the Cardinal the Stanford Axe Trophy for the 39th time.
