Chicago Cubs Tickets

The Chicago Cubs were among the original charter members of the National League in 1871, making them one of the oldest active major professional sports franchises in North America. The team has not won a World Series championship for well over a century-the longest championship dearth of any major sports franchise in North America. Their greatest rivalries are with the St. Louis Cardinals and their foes from Chicago’s South Side, the White Sox. A few of their most famous players are Ron Santo, Ferguson Jenkins, Billy Williams, Ernie Banks, Rogers Hornsby, and Leo Durocher.

Wrigley Field, Home to the Chicago Cubs

Wrigley Field, located in Chicago's North Side neighborhood of Lake View, has served as the home of the Chicago Cubs since 1916. Since its opening in 1914, Wrigley Field has also been the site of home games for the defunct Chicago Tigers, Chicago Sting, and Chicago Whales, which were football, soccer, and baseball clubs, respectively. The park's most unique features are its ivy-covered outfield wall made of brick and its old-timey hand turned scoreboard in center field. Wrigley Field was designated a Chicago Landmark in 2004.

Chicago Cubs and the National League Central

The Chicago Cubs are in the National League Central division, along with the Cincinnati Reds, Houston Astros, Milwaukee Brewers, Pittsburgh Pirates, and St. Louis Cardinals. They have won the division title three times since being moved there from the NL East-in 2003, 2007, and again in 2008. However, they have not been able to capture the NL pennant since 1945 and haven't won a World Series championship since 1907. The Cubs have a fierce cross-town rivalry with the Chicago White Sox of the AL Central, who they get to face regularly thanks to the interleague play schedule.

Chicago Cubs 2012 Team Outlook

With the hiring of Theo Epstein, the Chicago Cubs finally decided to embrace the rebuilding project that they have needed for years. The Cubs have been one of the most disappointing teams in all of baseball in recent years because of their many bloated contracts to underperforming players. However, Epstein has focused his attention this off-season on obtaining young, cost-controlled prospects. He traded pitcher Andrew Cashner to the San Diego Padres for first baseman Anthony Rizzo, widely considered to be one of the best prospects in baseball. He also obtained talented pitcher Travis Wood from the Cincinnati Reds for Sean Marshall. The team is preparing well for the future, but they are likely to have another difficult season this year.
