The Boston Celtics were founded in 1946. When the Basketball Association of America and the National Basketball Association merged in 1949, the Celtics officially became an NBA team. The Celtics have the honor of being the first franchise to draft an African-American player. The Boston Celtics have won 17 NBA championships, which are the most out of any team in the entire league. The Celtics also have 10 MVP award winners, which gives them the most out of any team in the league as well. Notable former Celtics include Larry Bird, Bill Russell, Kevin McHale, Robert Parish, and Red Auerbach.

TD Garden, Home to the Boston Celtics

TD Garden is home to the NBA's Boston Celtics and the NHL's Boston Bruins. Although formally named for TD Bank, N.A, the stadium has at least 33 monikers, some being The Fleet Center and Shawmut Center. It was built at the urging of the NHL's Boston Bruins in 1995 and replaced the aging Boston Garden. The new stadium was overhauled just a decade after construction. Renovations include a new HD display screen, see-through shot clocks, and video advertising panels. Notably, TD Garden has one of only two parquet floors in the NBA.

Boston Celtics and the Eastern Conference

Within the Eastern Conference is the Atlantic Division, which includes storied franchises such as the New York Knicks, Philadelphia 76ers, Boston Celtics, New Jersey Nets, and the Toronto Raptors. As members of this division, the Celtics have captured the title 20 times, which includes 21 conference championships. With 21 trips to the NBA Finals, the Boston Celtics have won 17 league titles. While the team's rival within the division is the 76ers, the Celtics have heated rivalries with the Atlantic Division's Detroit Pistons and the Los Angeles Lakers in the Western Conference.

Boston Celtics 2012 Team Outlook

Thanks to the shortened schedule this year, the Celtics have an intense, compressed schedule. Some teams won't even make it to Boston to play, but most Celtics fans shouldn't be too disappointed. For starters, the season will open with a game against the Knicks on Christmas Day. Since the Knicks could very well pose a threat to another Celtics' division title this year, that opening day could be a heart-stopper. The toughest part of the Celtics' schedule will come in March and April, when the Celtics play multiple road and back-to-back games. Doc Rivers will have to keep his team pumped up; however, the one advantage he has is that the other teams will probably be as tired as his.
