Atlanta Hawks Tickets

The Atlanta Hawks have gone through several name changes throughout the years. Originally founded as the Buffalo Bisons in 1946, the team became the Tri-Cities Blackhawks, the Milwaukee Hawks, the St. Louis Hawks and finally the Atlanta Hawks in 1968. The Atlanta Hawks have had several former players and coaches inducted into the National Basketball Association Hall of Fame, including Moses Malone, Pete Maravich, Dominique Wilkins, and Lenny Wilkens. Media mogul Ted Turner bought the Atlanta Hawks back in 1977 and owned the team up until 2004. The Atlanta Hawks were NBA Finals champions during the 1957-1958 season.

Philips Arena, Home to the Atlanta Hawks

Philips Arena is the nesting ground of the NBA's Atlanta Hawks. In 1999, this state-of-the-art facility was commissioned for $213.5 million to replace the deteriorating Omni Arena. Seating 18,729 basketball fans, it's become best known for its unique seat layout: Club seats and luxury boxes are placed solely on one side of the arena, letting the bulk of fans get the best views possible. Philips hosted the NBA All-Star Game in 2003 and has hosted WNBA games, the Stanley Cup Playoffs, US Figure Skating Championships, WWE competitions, and large music concerts.

Atlanta Hawks and the Eastern Conference

Within the Southeast Division of the Eastern Conference, the Atlanta Hawks compete against some of the toughest competition such as the Miami Heat, Orlando Magic, and nearby Charlotte Bobcats. The Hawks have not won an NBA championship title since 1958; however, the team has captured four division titles and four conference titles since 1957. Unfortunately, the four conference titles were achieved while the team was part of the Western Conference.

Atlanta Hawks 2012 Team Outlook

It's been a while since Atlanta Hawks fans had something to be excited about, but the upcoming season might change that. For starters, the Hawks' Marvin Williams had back surgery and recent scrimmages have proven that he's playing pain free for the first time in years. Meanwhile, Jeff Teague is eager to prove that he can more than take the injured Kirk Hinrich's place. Working hard to keep his place in the starting line-up, Teague reports that he's been spending long hours in the weight room and working on his jump shot. Overall, there's a good chance that this year the Hawks could have a winning season.
