This is a quality ereader with access to all three of the major bookstores (Barnes and Noble, Borders, and Kindle) which I don't believe any other ereader does. The tablet features are very useful, but by no means is it an iPad. The Cruz Reader can browse the web, watch video, and access social networks such as Facebook and Twitter. However, it lacks the more advanced features such as the ability to play complex games. Initially, it has access to an exclusive market, but a root is very easy to do and allows you to purchase apps from the Android Market in addition to the exclusive Cruz Market (which actually has a good selection, including Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, and several games).
If you are looking for an ereader first, but also want something that can browse the web, this is the product for you. And at only $60 refurbished, it is one of the best deals on the market. The sleek, stylish look guarantees you will get looks of envy from your friends and strangers.
Did I mention that there are around 400 free classics from one of the ereading apps (also free)? That alone makes it a great value, especially for someone who is going to college or just wants to read some great literature.
I would say this is most similar to a Kindle Fire, not an iPad. And at the price, it is a great value for an ereader. The battery life is around 2 days of idling and 8 hours of reading.
Hope this helps!
I bought it for my 72 years old uncle who has seeing problems and cannot read paper books because of the font size which is too small for him. E-ink readers are not a choice because he needs a backlight for a better contrast. Looks strange that the device does not have a reader program preinstalled, but as far as this is a fully functional Android tab, I could install a third-part ebook reader program and video player with the appropriate codecs.
I bought this item, because my daughter has one. I saw how she enjoyed hers. I used it a couple times and enjoyed it myself, so I purshased this one for myself.
My reason for for liking this item, is for it's size, features( able to download apps, music, videos, pictures). I don't think I would dislike this item.
The way this item compares to others is the size and price. Others may have more storage and features, but I purchased this because it fit into my budget.
I love it! It is just the right size. It holds my books and music and accesses the internet and email. It does everything I need it to! This was a great buy!
I bought this as a christmas present for my mum. She is ok with technology but I did not want anything to complicated. This was perfect. Once we played around with it for a while she soon got into the way of using it. You do have to download a book reader onto it but there is a list of free book readers on it in the cruz market button. I felt this was a better choice than other book readers as it has a back light (unlike other readers where you have to buy the light seperatly). It also comes with a cover and a USB lead to connect it to the computer. The only thing was the plug on it is a european plug with 2 prongs. If you live in the UK you will need to buy an adaptor plug. But these can be bought almost anywhere and cost very little.
I purchased the Cruz looking for something inbetween an eReader and a iPad, and that is exactly what I got! It has wonderful features and I love the fact it has night or day mode while reading. The down falls: the wifi goes in and out and you must go in and connect it EVERY TIME you turn the thing on; not a big issue though. Also, it is hard to read this outside. The lighting just isnt right no matter what you do with it.
This Velocity Micro Cruz was not advanced enough for me. But Fast Lane Wireless was a champ in handling my situation. I recommend them very highly. Thanks. JES
It's a great tablet it's a great price well worth the money. The tablet has great color and works great. It's well worth the price.
I bought the cruz the my mom for Christmas. I believed she liked the big screen and the access to so many books for free. Dislikes she doesn't have WIFI and her computer is down. I believe this is far better than the kindle, because of the bigger screen and the excellent colored screen.
