In 1970, John Wayne earned a long overdue Academy Award for his larger-than-life performance as the drunken but fearless one-eyed marshall Rooster Cogburn. Relive one of the great moments in screen history as Rooster faces the outlaws alone, refusing to give in and overcoming the odds in classic John Wayne style. One of the finest westerns ever made and a favorite here at Movie Magic USA! This Special Collector's Edition DVD is released by Paramount Pictures in honor of Duke's 100th birthday May 26th, 2007 and is loaded with all-new special features. For fans of the Duke, this is not to be missed!
Steven Holt, Movie Magic USA
John waye at his best in TRUE GRIT. The is nothing like John Wayne on the screen with reins in his teeth and guns a blazing in this Acadmy wardwinning performance as the one-eye Marshal Rooster Cogburn trying to help a girl get justice for her late father. Awsome movie much better than the re-make.
I recently saw the new True Grit movie with Jeff Bridges and wanted to see the original one with John Wayne again. Loved it, although Jeff Bridges played a terrific old carmudgeon and deserves an academy award, John Wayne was the best as Rooster Cogburn.
IVE' BEEN A JOHN WAYNE FAN SINCE IVE'BEEN ABOUT 10YRS OLD. THIS MOVIE TRUE GRIT IS A REAL CLASSIC, AND HAVE ALOT OF ADVENTURE. ALSO STARRING YOUNG DENNIS HOPPER. I RATE THIS ONE 5-STARS***** BLUEWILDCAT1968
The 1969 movie True Grit is a classic that I enjoy watching over and over again. I think it was one of the best westerns ever made, and it never gets old. I watch it every chance I can, I also try to catch it anytime it is broadcast on television, and I own the DVD.
John Wayne was U.S Marshal Reuben J. “Rooster” Cogburn a one-eyed, hard-drinking, straight-shooting, cantankerous lawman and he gave an award winning performance. He reluctantly helps a teenager Mattie Ross played by Kim Darby who also won academy Awards for their roles in the movie.
The supporting cast did an awesome job, and the title song was performed by Glen Cambell who also played La Boeuf a Texas Ranger and remember at the time Glen Cambell was not an actor he was a singer.
The DVD is very clear and sharp, so sit back and enjoy the show
You can't begin to understand the new version unless you truly appreciate this one. John Wayne in his oscar-winning role as Rooster Cogburn, its a must see and a must have.
Bought the dvd because I had heard that the new True Grit was based on the book True Grit not the old movie with John Wayne. Bulhonky. The old movie is virtually word for word like the book. Terrific really. And John Wayne is an adorable old drunk. Highly, highly recommend it to anyone who has read the book or seen the new version with Jeff Bridges.
Loved the movie, One of the Dukes Best Pictures!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I this movie it shows the old well rounded John Wayne (Rooster Cogburn) Funny Strong An America Legend. Ive been Watching Dukes Films Since i was a young boy.And some day hope to Own all his films...
Saw this movie on the big screen when I was growing up, wondered if it's still as good now that I'm an adult...and sure enough, it is...maybe even BETTER. John Wayne is a classic, and while some actors from his era now seem to have been "acting," his characters always seem real, like they were just caught on film doing what they normally do. True Grit is a must-have for any DVD library.
