CG effects were pretty awesome, and the plot I didnt expect nor receive very much,it was a kids cartoon people!I thought there was no way to make John Turturro into a truly retarded actor but this movie somehow did it.Michael Bay is terrible and should stop ruining things like the transformers and Pearl Harbor. The girl was really hot though and Bumblebees change was pretty cool, wished he would have kept using his radio, much cooler than the gay voice he was given . Prime was cool and the action good, get rid of Bay and Taye Diggs and the movie would be downright awesome, maybe if Spielberg had directed it would have been done true justice.I will buy it as a loyal transformers fan and for the special effects.
I hate to say it but this movie is the one of the most overrated sci fi flicks of all time. Every Transformers fan I've ever known loves this film, why? It dawned on me as I sat through this headache for the second time. The same Transformers fans that were cursing Michael Bay before this flick came out are now the same people that are saying "Michael Bay rules!" Why? I'll tell you why, Transformers fans gave this movie a free pass. The script is a joke, the actors are annoying, and most of the Transformers look like giant hunks of metallic poop. You see, Transformers fans desperately wanted this movie to be good, they let every mistake and every LOUD computer animated scene slip by. Michael Bay should not have been in charge of this film. Oh yeah Transformers fans, I'm sick of the excuse "What do you want, it's based on a cheesy cartoon from the 80's." What kind of excuse is that, the movie has huge holes. The giant cube that turns machines into Transformers is the lamest part of the movie, not to mention the fact that the original voice of Megatron was left out of this movie because Michael Bay is a tool. This movie is also one huge commercial for GMC, Pepsi, and eBay. A smart fan of films will not like this, but if you are into bad movies with tons of pointless action and bad acting and LOUD smashing that never ends, please by all means buy this horrible film. P.S. The extras on the DVD are long boring documentaries that suck the movie off over and over for hours of more boring Transformers crapola.
The plot is corny and some of the jokes are very forced. The casting seems too light hearted and typical, bombshell blonde and overweight goofball are the nation's top computer experts, etc. The action sequences are so fast and frantic that it is very easy to get confused about what is blurring past.
But, all in all, it is a special effects movie about giant robots and that part works well enough to make the film entertaining.
The effects are certainly special, but if you're looking for smart plot, snappy dialogue and sharp character development, look elsewhere. There's nothing involving, suspenseful or memorable here, beyond all the transformational snap-crackle-pop. The family is especially unbelievable, which is a big disappointment for a Spielberg-produced film. His movies feature complex, credible family dynamics, which make us care what happens next. Two specific complaints: Why give these 'bots such a strong handle on slanguage, only to cast it aside in favor of clunky mechanical blather about bravery and courage? This was a golden opportunity for good dialogue...squandered. Also, what sense does it make, when you're being hunted by enormous killing machines, to decide to hide in a city? It certainly ups the potential for a high body count and devastation for devastation's sake, I guess, yet it only adds to the narrative incoherence. Ultimately, I could look beyond such details, if only I cared about these characters. This is summer popcorn, but it needed better writing.
The only reason I bought this edition of the Transformers DVDs is for the Beginnings disc. On the package, they build the Beginnings to be a prequel to the movie, it's supposed to give fans an idea of how the Transformers story came about. I don't know about other Transformers fan, but I was hoping for a movie quality-like production of the Beginnings, but I was in for a big letdown. The Beginning disc is a 19-minute cartoon sketch of how, why the Autobots and Decepticons fought over the Allspark and their journey from Cybertron to Earth. The quality of the sketches are average at best, the colors were even worse. I've seen newspaper strip cartoon with better quality than the Beginnings. The disc doesn't even tell you much you didn't already know. Basically, I could've threw this disc out and went straight to the movie and not miss a thing. Don't waste your money on this version of the Transformers DVD. If I had known what I know now, I would've bought the 2-disc edition with the feature movie and the bonus disc with director's commentary and deleted footages, etc.
This movie could have been better we rated it a average. It was topps as far as the excitement & action was concerned. No doubt truely awesome but the plot, characters (except Otimus Prime) werent true to light. we felt Micheal Bay & Steven Spielberg diverted more away from the original than ever before. The character Witwicky should have been Spike and his girlfriend should have been Carly! Missing were a ton of G1 original characters Wheeljack, Cliffjumper, Braun, Thundercracker, Skywarp, Rumble, Laserbeak these are just to name a few. We have written to Micheal Bay & Steven Spielberg asking them to remain true to the original cartoon series as possible in Transformers 2 hopefully the don't disgrace us again just to try to sell more HD dvds
It really hurts that we had to rate this movie with a fine legendary legacy a average. Steven Spielberg and Micheal Bay should have done a better job in sticking to the roots and the true origin of the Transformer generation. We mean sure there were a couple of 1984 catch phrases here and there but the overall plot and theme as well as characteration was off key example: Where was Spike, Carly and there son Daniel and maybe even Sparkplug Spike's dad? These characters could have been introduced in the movie, they were cartoon characters which could have ben revised for the movie. Instead of using new names for the human characters which had no relation to characters of old. We are die hard collectors and long time running Fanatics of Generation 1 Transformers and we were quit embrassed that they released this movie in this fashion. Nevertheless there is talk about there being a part 2. Hopefully they go back to the true orgin of the Transformer Legacy adn try to revape what was done with this 2007 Transformer movie.
I'm a little bummed because I didn't know that I had to have a DVD player that played high def DVD's when I bought this movie. So I bought a new DVD player thinking that it had HD because the add said it did, but it did not, I even tried to play it in the new one and it won't recognize it so it won't play :O(. So I have a real nice HD DVD movie of Transformers that I can't watch because I didn't know I had to have an HD DVD player. Otherwise, I have seen the movie in the theater and I know it would look awesome if I could play it in HD.
So I recommend the add say "Can only use with HD DVD Player".
