An incredibly powerful and all too often overlooked view into the lives of those affected by mental illness, and particularly the families that surround and support them. Visually engaging and deftly written, "Take Shelter" is a comforting film that promotes tolerance, understanding and grace when coming to terms with those who see the world in a unique and often threatening way. Highly recommended.
michael shannon delivers what i will call the year's best performance as a man haunted by apocalyptic visions. jessica chastain delivers powerful work she did that a lot in 2011 as his justifiably frightened wife. interesting movie.
Good film. Definitely worth renting. The cons are that the commercials / trailers I saw that made me want to rent it - showed way too much. The pros are that they did a great job filming it, and the actors/actresses did great. It will keep your attention and you will want to know what's going to happen. Also It does leave you in a way of wanting more at the end, which could upset some viewers, I know it did me a bit.
To sum this movie up, the main character, he is a typical country type hard worker who is raising a family and suddenly is having dreams, hearing things, seeing things. Question throughout the entire movie " Is he or is he not crazy"? You will get an answer by the end of the film.
Bought this because I like Mike Shannon from the HBO series, "Boardwalk Empire", and the subject matter is my cup-of-tea.
