Not only is Star Wars a classic (It would have been a classic all by itself), they decided to make sequels that are as good as the original. Even if you don't like Sci-Fi, this is one of the best series of all time. The sequels are outstanding, and you grow to love the characters whether it's Han Solo, Yoda, Princess Leia, C3PO, Chewbacca, or Darth Vadar. Watching Luke Skywalker grow from just a young man into a Jedi is an excellent journey that you'll love to watch over and over again no matter your age. Actually, I recommend watching all 6 movies beginning with Episode 1, so you can watch the whole saga chronologically, especially the transformation of Darth Vadar. The Star Wars Trilogy is a required inclusion to any DVD collection. I own all 6 Star Wars movies, and so should you.
It was time to add Star Wars to my fledgling DVD collection. Fell in love with Stars Wars in 1977, it's one of those films that is an American instisution. So good that Ronald Regan named his space program after it! It still holds the same thrill of the action packed sci-fi sage of Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, Hans Solo and of course the Wookie, Chewbacca teamed with the Jedis in their battle with the evil Darth Vadar.
George Lucas is a maverick and pioneered much in the film industry with his first three films which has carried over to todays productions.(Can you imagine more recent sci-fi films without the special effects?) A must for any DVD collection.
This is a visually stunning movie, Even today. This movie, released originally in 1977 was so far ahead of it's time that it's scary. George Lucas pionerred and created new filming and speacial effects tecnices that are still relivant and still used today. Without the pioneer efforts of this movie most of todays big box office hits wouldn't be possible. This film is fun and action pact, it spawned two sequals, 3 prequals, several made for tv movies and many many cartoon series. + hundreads of books, toys, lunch boxes, underwear, toothbrushed, dog holloween costumes and any other bizarr thing you can tink of... Star wars is one of the greatest movies ever and george lucas is a god!!!
The trilogy arrived quickly, wrapped in shrink wrap and was a present for my husband. We love Sci-Fi and George Lucas is such a creative genius. There are too many re-runs on TV. Whatever happened to the TV season beginning in September and ending about April? THEN, we must deal with re-runs for the summer. Now, we end up seeing re-runs in October! Therefore, I decided to get ahold of some DVD's that I knew that we would enjoy. The price seemed good, the item was new (how to they do that?) and so we are happy. About the DVD's, what more can one add about the classics? Episode 5 is my least favorite so my husband watched it alone. We both enjoyed episodes 4 & 6 and expect to watch them several times in the future. It's also fun to think back to when we originally saw the movies in the theater --- we had young children then and that brings back sweet memories. About the actual movies? If you like Sci-Fi, then invest in these classics!
You might not believe this but Harry Potter almost snuffed out Luke Skywalker in our youth. If you have a child between the ages of 7-13 they may not know who Luke Skywalker is or what his history is.
Because this character and story line are so deeply engrained in Pop culture it is important to dust it off and give it a re-play. If you are a teacher this is a wonderful example and classroom experiment into the classic Americana of storytelling. Orphan boy misses parents and longs for a better life only to get caught in some strange series of events that mold him into a man, then to struggle again when he must fight evil at its core. The older versions are still the best and you can buy with confidence. The newer films do not carry as much clout or deliver as clean of a story. Best to stay with the classics for kids and let them expand to the newer series after age 13.

This is an excellent set of episodes 4, 5, and 6. I think this represents George Lucas's real vision for the films, and the additional scenes ignore the outdated thinking that all movies must be shortened as much as possible.
The big downside is the explosion of the Death Star in episode 4. This is a clear rip off of Star Trek 6, where a Kingon moon exploded in exactly the same say.
Other than that, this set is a requirement for any Sci-Fi collector.
The Star Wars Trilogy is one of the best franchises ever. The Special efx are far betind its time and paved the way for so many more great sci-fi films.
