This is the dumbed-down version of the PS3. While it isn't the cheapest unit ever produced (40gb version), it isn't hardly worth the full retail price, assuming you use it for dedicated game and movie playback. No card readers, only 2 USB ports (vs original 4), AND keep in mind that the price is expected to drop in April 2009--so hold off on purchasing for now. This "combo" in particular is a giant waste of your money. It's cheaper to simply buy another PS3 and purchase the game separately (especially since its been on the market for a while). 160gb 2.5" laptop hard drives are cheap now ($20-$30)--and you WON'T need the space, unlike the Xbox360
Only the 60gb and 20gb versions came with the "Emotion Chip", which allowed nearly perfect PS2/PS1 hardware-based emulation. Only these originals featured chrome trim, and everything that's come since has had cheaper gray plastic.
Only the 80gb Motorstorm PS3s that have come since are capable of playing PS2 games, but it is software emulated, and will not universally play all games. ALL PS3 units are capable of playing the original PS1 games.
IF you are going to get a Playstation 3 and care about overall quality, invest a little more money in purchasing the 60gb version over ALL others--and invest the $40 in a squaretrade warranty.
NOTE: A PS3 price drop is expected in April of 2009--unless you want a 60/20gb PS3 for playback purposes, it is recommended that you hold off on your PS3 purchase until after this point in time.
This system weights a ton. 1st generation PS3. Great system if it works. cpu and gpu Lose power or shorts, the system shuts down. Hard drive get a problem it shuts down. It keeps the record till you syce the chips and mother board by heat. Reballling mother board is the best thing to do. Pulls 250v of power. that's alot. Blue ray drive gives alot of problem after age. Good thing about it ps1, ps2 works good on a HD tv not tube TV. it looks darker on tube TV's. PSN on drive can over heat if you have a bad SATA drive. Wireless for internet sucks. CD's get eaten when it shuts down. SONY can fix for 150 dollar, but you will have the same problem. Hacks work good on it but not a good idea because network can control a shutdown. known for yellow light and red blinking light. or black screen. 3 shut down modes.
This a great console with alot of cool thing and the best part is online gaming with friends is free!! and if you got a friend you can share a network account with each other and play all your game and save yourself money he buys some and you buysome and built and awesome collection but good console just a bit to pricey i will stick with the 360 and go to the future and not the past same looken controller
I bought the ps3 because of all the hype surrounding it everyone saying the games look more real and everything.i liked the fact that i could play all my playstation games on it old and new and i like the fact that it played blu-ray discs.however i did not know that i had to go on the internet to update it every time it goes out of date i did not have wireless so it was ridiculous for me to try to figure out how to update it and i also did like the fact that i guess sony planed for this to be some kind of special power house machine.but in fact it was nothing but a headache from the moment i took it out the box.i had it maybe to weeks and it overheated and it in the open with air all around it.so now i have a broken ps3 that i haven't had that long maybe a month give or take a week and it broken and sony wants a 1oo dollars or more to fix it not including shipping and handling. Iam very disappointed not at all what i expected the playstation 1&2 much better take it out the box and play it i still have both my old playstations and i bought them when they first came out.The ps3 is to fragile and has to many electronic problems.if i had knew then what i knew know i would have never purchased it.And the next time i even think about buying a ps4 if there ever is one i will do alot of research and if it is anything like the ps3 i really really want be wasting my money on it.
The PS3 was working fine at first. My movies and PS2 games all worked fine. But when I stated playing a brand new PS3 game it stopped working. Now the PS3 won't turn on or eject the disc. All it does is beep 3 times and flash a red light, it's not over heated either. The person who sold it to me isn't answering my e-mails and I don't have his or her phone number. The worst part is that this cost me almost $300 and it's not returnable. If it can't be fixed I want My money back.
big disapointment i should bay lg blueray dvd got netflix, you tube or laptop. is slow, you cant wach many things and internet is slow often freez its only for gamming .you cant return like when you bay in store any way price drop down bay ps3 in store so???
This unit powers on and it it will play games from the hard drive. The only problem is that it will not play cd or games when inserted in the cd drive.
PS3 is only good for one reason................blu ray. Other than that, there is not a huge difference in graphics between PS3 and Xbox 360. If you want a system that looks good with a better game selection, your best bet would be an Xbox 360. Xbox 360 with an HDMI port and cord gives the same level of graphics, full hd 1080p. I sold my PS3 because of the lack of game selection.
The games were very enjoyable but I never got the system to work properly (ie. games skipping) on any television I have. I would definitely recommend the games, but if every PS3 works like this I cannot recommend it.
I was expecting a ps3 consle,(Sony PlayStation 3 Uncharted: Drake's Fortune Limited Edition Bundle -Game console- black - 160 GB)which is what was written but i am glad i was informed.thx
