The 525 has a smaller screen, but it is so much lighter that I gave the 505 to my grandson for his 12th birthday and he is enjoying it immensely. I have been working on making a seminar using these Pocket PC’s for Marine navigation. See http://www.pocketpc.homestead.com/ for details. The touch screen makes marine navigation so, so much easier than any of the stuff I have seen from Garmin. The
things missing are waterproof, floating and easy battery replacement. The charts for US waters are free. With the 525, you also get Wi-Fi so you can Skype home when you arrive at most marinas tell them you are OK for practically no cost. I love the weather map feature as well. You have to put the important software on the SD in case you do a hard reset that wipes out the marine software and the Skype that is on the volital main memory. All in all these devices are a bit to techi for reliable use on the water with out a back up at this time.
This unit is good for what I use it for, on my motorcycle and in my car and I haven't used the address navigation feature, but I love the simplicity and the screen size. Once is left unsued for some weeks then the set would have to be done again, (simple), but if the info is saved to the chip then no set up necessary when left off for long periods. You have to read the directions and it will work great if you follow them. Nice color and contrast, many functions, more than others! Recomend if you have time to work with it at first.
I have two of these units. For the price , it does not get any better. Easy to use, great memory and the touch screen is so easy to use.
If you have ever seen the movie RV, the annoying GPS that says Make a Legal U-Turn. This is it. After a very long trip down dirt roads, roads that the highway you needed was an overpass above you. The GPS was finally turned off. I am so disappointed in this product. I would not recommend it to anyone.
