few weeks now and has been underwater. still works and semi HD but not to good video wise and sound wise crap. slow focus. good zoom but makes for crappier picture quality. u have to take a bunch of pictures with different setting but not an issue for me. no shutter speed settings like it said it did instead its automatic and works at night ONLY.
This is my second sub-aquatic camera, previous one was an Olympus too, and this camera have a bunch of nice features, like HD video, good low-light shooting, panoramic shot, besides the obvious of being shockproof, waterproof, dustproof and freezeresistant; is the ideal camera to go to the beach and not worrying of salty breeze or sand getting inside the lens. You can go hiking, camping, and I even skydived and BASE jump with this cam attached to my hand. It is an awesome camera if you're into outdoor activities. It has 14Mpxs and 5X optical zoom, that is more than most point-and-shoot cameras pack, well, is not a studio cam, but it will be your favorite partner when grabbing a backpack and heading to the mountains, the forest, the desert or the beach.
BEWARE OLYMPUS RECONDITIONED
After less than 10 min. video and 30 or so stills (mainly to test my new camera and brag about its features) my factory-reconditioned 6020 crapped out. At 120$, it was a steal but, less than a week after the 90-day warranty expired, the camera refused to recognize the fully charged battery or any battery. Throughout this period, despite the cameras freezeproof, waterproof, shockproof ‘abilities’, I coddled this baby. After weeping on the phone to Olympus they said they’d take a look at it and maybe clean the contacts or something. I sent it special UPS (12$-recommended) and after a month of various delays, the service center finally said that they could repair it for 130$. Uh...How ‘bout just cleaning it? NO. Diagnosing? NO. After threatening bad reviews they lowered the price to 73$--as you can see, I’d rather warn you guys.
I have read many reviews before buying this camera, so I am going to be truthful to those of you who are doing the same. You might have read that the camera starts up slow or that is does'nt save the settings or that it acts wierd and blah blah blah. All of these are solvable by adjusting the settings, people just dont read the manuel!
As far as it being water proof, It is!!! I tested it and It's perfect for pictures and video under water!!! I was scared because other reviews stated that water would leak into the battery compartment. To prevent this you have to make sure that there is no hair, debris, or even dust around the seal before you close the battey door.
I highly recommend this camera!!! It's fast has amazing picture quality with hardly any grainyness if the pic is taken right. It has no weak points according to my expeirance. I also love the led light that is built in, it is so bright and useful!!!
love it! works perfect under water and out of water! easy to use! it is light weight and very sleek. i can't figure out how to use the "drawing" feature because the pictures it takes are too light to make out fine detail. that is my only complaint. besides that, i love it!
Since it's a manufacturer refurbished product, i think unfortunately i could find the problem there was before. When turning the video mode on, in low lightness, you can see a tirreble noise in picture quality, like burned pixels switching on and off. However, the video quality in good light conditions is really great!
The other thing i felt unpleasant with, was the fact that you can't adjust the F and shutter speed manually, which is usual to that kind of compact cameras.
I think it's a great value for money, specially when you intent to use it most like "an underwater toy" during your vacations.
The size and weight is perfect concerning the water resistant feature, and i loved its design too.
There are so many programs and modes to adjust idealy to several conditions, and the truth is you have to "play" a lot and try all of them, several times, before you have a satisfying result.
This camera lasted less that 4 hours in and out of the water. It never reached a depth of more than 3 feet and never recieved any type of shock, etc. It leaked thru the battery compartment which I had doubts about when I first bought this camera. Picture quality is poor for a 14 MP camera. I am not impressed, It is not a waterproof camera as it is advertised so it was a very bid disappointment.
We bought this camera as an easy to carry ,run around camera for amusement parks and such as we already have a large DSLR. We wanted waterproof for fun and so I don't worry about the kids near the pool or water parks. The pictures are better than expected out doors but worse than expected in doors (for the most part) then every so often it does great. The panoramic absolutely is horrible 4 out of 5 times. I bought the reconditioned so i knew it was already to spec and to save money. I feel it was worth the money but I wouldn't have been so thrilled at full retail I like it just due to it's waterproof and shock resistant and does take great underwater pictures in the fish tank and pool and we are heading to Disney and water parks.
I'm very happy with the camera so far. I've taken it out in the ocean in my kayak and appears to be water resistant. I haven't used it underwater so I can't say it's water proof yet. I like the compact size and sturdy feel. I'm looking forward to using it on my up coming beach vacation. I also think it will be perfect for my ski and hunting trips as well. Picture quality is great and battery life is good. Make sure you read the owner's manual, there are some settings that will help the camera start up faster and help with battery life. I would recommend this camera to anyone that is active and spends a lot of time outdoors.
I had it about 30 days and have taken photos at the beach, as well as other outside locations, and also some inside shots and so far I am pleased with the camera and the photos it has produced. I have not tried it under water, yet, but then I did not buy it for underwater photography, but more for the extreme temperature ranges and it's ability to still function.
