pretty good-1 complaint

Just bought after Xmas...Bought package with xtra memory card, case, xtra battery, charger, card reader, claening kit, tirpod and so on. Up to this point not many complaints but I have not played with all the features. Small but not too small, good sized LCD screen, many features (hopefully many of them good ones), long battery life, 2 gb card holds like 800 pics in low setting, sharp picture on screen, card reader to download pics is very simple.

Only complaint to this point...I read on some reviews somewehere that people complained about "grainyness" (if that is word) on their pics when printed. When I installed their software and printed some pics from it, I did notice the "grainyness" (I am by no means a professional) as well. I then decided to try and print from my software program that I used from my older program and camera and it printed a better picture. So even though the software gives you many features, other program prints a better pic. So I use the olympus software to touch up and then save and then print from other program.

But then it could be something I am doing wrong...

Olympus Stylus 1010 - No regrets!

I bought a pre-own camera, consider in good working condition. Although this is an earlier model (now 8080), because i have the underwater housing, which don't cater for other models, so decided to buy 1010 again, mine was stolen.

The features, such as the optical zoom of 7X and digital zoom 5X is very high, compare to the later pocket size models. 10.1MP is reasonable resolution even after 2 years since my first Olympus 1010.

Also, i prefer to take out battery for charging, so that i can insert extra batteries to continues shooting, compare to some camera that only provide charger cable. I believe we always experience low battery disappointment at crutial moments.

Except LCD 2.7" is a bit too small, and this model is probably has stop manufactured.

One of the best I've ever owned!

Let me start by saying this is the second Olympus camera I've owned. The first one was the the Stylus 800, it was "my baby" & sadly it was lost forever when a family member accidentally threw away the bag it was in.

So this time I went with the Stylus 1010 model, I love it! I can zoom in on the smallest of objects & get superb pics! And I bought it brand new at Sam's Club for a very reasonable price. It's small enough that I can put it in my purse, or my pocket and take it anywhere. It even takes very nice photos from far off in a dimly lit room, just set it to the "Available Light" setting and it uses the light in the room instead of the flash.

(Don't try this at home)
It can also take some harsh treatment. My 3yr old got hold of mine and decided she was going to wash it in the bath room sink. Now it wasn't just wet, mind you, it was SOAKED. It would not turn on, and I just died when I saw how much water dripped out of it! Well, after my crying fit, I removed the battery & XD card, and unscrewed the back panel and let it sit open on a paper towel for 2 days to dry. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it came right back to life once it was dry! I had fully expected it to be ruined forever!

Overall, it is a darn good camera.

Downfall - it's not waterproof (duh) and the underwater housing costs almost as much as the camera itself, however if you really want to take underwater pictures, you would probably spend a little more for one that didn't need a housing. I'm just fine with keeping mine high and dry and out of the reach of little hands!

Great Camera for the money!

Like: the price. I got this camera for $125. NewEgg.com had a returned one for $5 more + shipping. That's a good deal on a camera that retails for more than $175 in a lot of places.

Close ups of text material are not so hot in less than great light. Its like the camera has trouble focusing on text. I couldn't get it too anyway.

The 10.1 mega pixel proves to provide great image quality overall. And the zoom is quite nice on a camera this small and inexpensive.

Love It!!!!

I love that this camera is excellent quality and small enough to fit in my overfull duaper bag. We have an awesome Nikon camera that we use all the time but I wanted this camera so that I could take it with me everywhere I went with our new baby girl, since you never know when the most adorable thing is going to happen. Our Nikon is a professional camera and is heavy and pretty big and I just can't lug another bag with me everywhere, so this camera is perfect. I haven't printed any pics yet so I don't know about printed pic quality but they pics look great on teh camera and I am a horrible photographer. It also doesn't hurt that it is purple, my favorite color!!Read full review...

Great Choice

7x optical zoom + image stabilizer = great candid shots. With the many scene choices there is a lot of flexibility with this camera. About the size of a credit card, it's easy to slip in the pocket/purse and handy all the time. I had the camera nearly 2 weeks before I had to recharge the battery. With the specialized adapter, I can use a 4GB micro SD card and get thousands of low resolution shots. I love the little camera, and will really get a lot of use out of it. Good choice for a slightly experienced photog.Read full review...

It's just perfect!

I must say my kids were not real happy with the Nikons they had so we searched for a replacement. I like this one so much I'll be buying 2 more. I spent weeks reading reviews and looking at feedback and honestly I did not take the time to venture out and see one before I bought.

The screen is huge and great for an old guy like me, even though my kids will be using it. The Auto focus is incredible and works great close up as well as far away. But what I really like about the camera is the lens! It brings far away right up close and the image stabilization makes a great picture too!

We do not take pictures as professionals here and a camera is a way to preserve memories. for us it needs to be portable and primate simple! I was concerned about alos needing to buy a different memory card from the Olympus than I had for teh Nikons. I am soooooo far over that concern now....

I took great pleasure in taking a hammer to the coolpix... And I'll be upgrading my 5 year old Olympus shortly as well. I've loved it and it was super reliable and that had a great deal to do with this purchase as well. It has many miles on it and never had to be returned for warranty service like the Nikon coolpix cameras we have/had...

Well this is week one and everyone in the house has had a turn to use it and we all like it a great deal!

Stylus 1010 -- excellent value!

This camera is compact, easy to use and has a stunning 7X optical zoom feature. For its size and for the money spent, the Stylus 1010 can't be beat. The viweing screen is large and bright -- a light touch on the shutter release provides a quick focus and extra illumination. Motion video production is also easy.

Buy one if you need a very portable camera with a long lens.

Ok Camera I Guess.

pros-
nice design, great screen, high quality pictures
overall an excellent camera if all you want to do is take snapshots. if you are not trying for anything professional and dont care to learn advanced photo techniques like changing the iso or the exposure then really this is one of the best cameras out there.
cons-
can't customize settings, not very many settings to change in the first place. there are many picture options, the usual, indoor outdoor candlelight etc but they differ very little and really it doesn't matter if you pick them or not
moving pics wont come out right, whether you're in the sport preset or you change your own settings. i was trying to shoot slowly moving fish and all i got were streaks. most of their info call them intermediate cameras but i would call them a beginner's camera, however for a beginner i highly recommend.

Olympus Stylus 1010 camera

I found the camera excellent. It is easy to use with alot of options and takes excellent pictures. I had done alot of research and the camera did not disappoint me at all. It was shipped to me quickly and in perfect condition. I like the compact style with the large monitor screen and especially like that the monitor can be viewed in the sunlight which was my big concern. Shutter speed is quick.Read full review...
