The Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), the best-selling video game system of all time, has countless gems for fans of classic video games. Thanks to the comic reviews of the Angry Video Game Nerd, the NES system has seen something of a revival in recent years. While he focuses on the most heinous and unplayed of Nintendo games, nearly every prevalent Nintendo character can trace his, her, or its origins to this console. Link. Mario. Samus. Ice Climbers. Solid Snake. Kirby. Donkey Kong. All either originated in a NES cartridge or were popularized in a NES game. Owing to the relative simplicity of the graphics and controller, programmers focused on engrossing and imaginative gameplay. Younger gamers may scoff at the crude graphics and two, count 'em, TWO buttons on the controller, but given a chance, most NES games still hold up to modern scrutiny. Many go a step beyond this: they're actually fun to play. If you never played the NES and enjoy contemporary Nintendo games, you owe it to yourself to try one out.
The NES system is known to be finnicky and error-prone, a consequence owing primarily to the slot used to insert its cartridge-based games. This slot and its so-called 72-pin connector--literally 72 metal pins that connect to the pins in the cartridge games--is the most often damaged item in the entire componentry. If your NES system flashes a blinking red light when plugged in, odds are very high that you simply need to open your NES and replace the 72-pin connector with a new one. This is a relatively easy fix as you'll only need a screwdriver and 10 minutes. These 72-pin connectors are always available on eBay.
The controller on the NES began the long tradition of detachable plug-and-play accessories in home consoles. Consisting of two buttons and a digital movement pad, the NES controller is the epitome of simplicity. Yet even these two buttons allowed for relatively sophisticated gameplay.
The NES game library is very large, so collectors will have a hobby for years. Nearly every game is a classic. Try one out and marvel how far we've come in such a short time. You can't truly appreciate your modern shooting and puzzle games without understanding the complexity of Contra and Zelda. Get N or get out!
I had one of these when they first came out in 1985. Back then they were considered state of the art. Now they're more of a novelty item, but my son is into collecting retro gaming consoles and he wanted one for Christmas. He loves all the old games and this will really make his day. So my rating might be somewhat askew, but only because after 26 years the ease of use of this product without changing the 72 pin connector, well it makes getting it to work properly somewhat challenging. Games should be cleaned too which helps in making these old units work. Remember blowing on the cartridges? Well q-tips and high grade Isopropyl rubbing alcohol works quite well. As for the value for the money, I'm rather shocked by some of the prices these things are going for, but good deals are out their and even heavily used ones are easily put back into working order with parts readily available here on eBay and how-to videos on Youtube.
This product is decent if you or a loved one likes theold school games but doesn't compare to the new fangled, HD goodness of the xBox 360 or the PS3. Hope this review helps some!
That classic 8-bit console that started it all. The Nintendo Entertainment System is a fantastic entry level system in the video game world. Many tough and entertaining games that are still one of the most popular and most played games of today. Super Mario Bros, Zelda, Metroid, Duck Hunt, CastleVania, Excitebike, just to name a few. A very easy system to use, you can either hook it up through your TV's coaxial input or more popular composite in your CRT or LCD TV. It's more recommended to play an older game console like this on a tube or CRT TV so that quality of the image is pleasant to the player, and so that you do not experience any sort of lag with the gameplay.
The "Nintendo" is a classic console. I am really not sure why I have to tell you that. If you are a gamer the is the holy grail and creator of your gaming. If you were born in the 80's - early 90's you owned one. Everybody who's is anybody has played this system. Mario Brothers/Duck Hunt, Captain Skyhawk, Tetris, Tecmo Bowl are just some of the classics we grew up to enjoy. I bought this nintendo because it was a very good deal, looked clean (no yellowing) and no physical damage that I noticed. The only thing I do not like about it is my favorite games are becoming harder and harder to find. If you do find them it will ,most likely be on ebay and you will pay a ton for them.
I have been collecting Nintendo NES for about 20 years. The R.O.B. and stack ups are very nice to use for the NES system. Since I opened me store, and started sharing my items. It has been a blast to buy and sell. I sell all my over stock items and then have a chance to get the items i always wanted to get my whole life. I SEANBIGBLUE think Nintendo NES is the best old school system out there, and many people on EBAY think the same. If you are an 80's kid like I was, this is the stuff.
The NES deluxe console is probably one the top 5 greatest consoles. when I mean that I mean it just cant be beat. My proof of this is in its game library. the system had so many great titles such as Zelda, Mario bros, metroid, tetris, and alot of great arcade classics. even today's "cutting edge technology" cant beat the awesomeness the nintendo.
The product itself is great! I purchased this as a a birthday present for my sister. We grew up with this game system and after spilling soda on our first one we were devastated to have to get rid of it. Its like trip back in time to our childhood. Its like you're 9 years old again sitting in front of the tv screen jumping over mushrooms, shooting starships, and traveling through the Zelda castle all over again.
My issues were with the seller.
I wont be going to him again for anything.
Upon buying this product, I would recommend you carefully choose your sellers.
NES sistem was my first and favorite of all time game console. unfortunately the console i bought here on ebay, doesn't look like in the picture at all.. in the pic it looks very clean and without marks or rust, and the one i recieved is almost browm instead of grey like it should be. now, i understand its like 20 years old or so, but in the pic it looks really neat! at the moment the console works ok, but sometimes when i insert a game it tilt a little bit but not so big deal! next time I buy something here I hope It can be better. o.. almost forgot, its smell like if it was in an old box for centuries!
The original Nintendo Nes is a great classic and first of its kind that changed gaming forever.
No disc for kids to scratch
easy to use and playable for all ages
Great games can still be bought for cheap
no newer games so limited choices / still many to choose from
Pin connecters go bad pretty fast if not properly taken care of
lack of graphics compared to todays market / but first in class for its time.
Recommended for begginers or a must for any retro gamer.
This Console is one of the Original and Fundamental Systems that led to all the Gaming you see today.I will always appreciate and enjoy playing games On the Original Nintendo because it takes me back to how simple and fun gaming used to be.Definitely a revolutionary entertainment system .
