Excellent Basic Phone

I love this phone. Very simple to figure out and use. Everything is basic so there is nothing fancy about it. I have dropped it in water 3 times, put it in a ziploc bag with rice and it continues to work. I only charge it about once every 3 days and I use it often. My favorite feature is the tones for the alarm. This is a great phone for what I paid for it.

If all you want is a cell phone, it's great.

With the proliferation of smart phones, reviewing a simple cell phone is like reviewing a '96 Oldsmobile; what's the point? But here goes. I first started carrying a company cell phone about 4 years ago. It was a Mot W385. Not long afterward, my boss switched providers and my W385 was replaced with Samsung that my clumsy fingers would often drop while attempting to open. (But when I picked up the pieces and put it together, it always worked). I no longer work there but I inherited my daughters cell phone, another Samsung. If I put it in my pocket before the display went dark, it would start playing music. And, it would often try to call someone while it was in my pocket. I decided to replace it with a W385 since I always liked the "feel" of it. It doesn't play music or try to call someone when I put it in my pocket. And, since I've been carrying it, I haven't had any pictures taken of the inside of my pocket. I like it. My apologies to Samsung. I'm sure you make a great product but not the 2 I had experience with.

Sleek and Simple

If you are looking for a basic phone, this is great. It's is sleek and has some great ring tones. I downgraded all of my phones on my plan. There are not a lot of covers to choose from but eBay has the best selection.

Great Phone for the money.

I bought this phone for my mother and this is her fourth phone and she does not want any other phone. She stated she knows how to use this one and she was not going to learn another phone. So I will buy her another one when this one is used up. I think it is a great phone for the money. The battery last for days before it needs a charge. Thanks

Great phone for emergency and or basic phone needs. Compact and easy to use. You're able to text, make regural phone calls,
send picture messeges...

W385 is a simple, tough phone that lasts a long time on a battery charge

This is a plain vanilla phone for someone that wants to use a phone primarily to talk (remember that?)and perhaps text a little. I went searching for this model because I "upgraded" to something else a couple years ago and missed the W385 every since. It has a nice feel with a nonslip rubbery coating and the battery lasts for several days on a charge. It has a substantial build with a rugged hinge. The screen isn't large, so don't plan on doing much online web browsing (but then, if that's what you are looking for you wouldn't be buying this phone anyway). It has a camera, if you happen to need one. I bought a Verizon W385 from Electronics4U. It wasn't clear to me from their description, but it was a Verizon prepaid phone. I couldn't activate it on my Verizon account by dialing *228 - send. I was able to activate it once I went to the Verizon online activation site and entered the phones MEID number. At that point *228 - send activated it quickly.
One downside it that this phone wasn't able to utilize the Verizon Backup Assistant feature (stores your phone numbers online and can restore them to your phone). Verizon changed their system software about a year ago, and older phones can't download the backup assistant software. According to the Verizon forum, you should be able to take the phone to a Verizon corporate phone store and get the phone "reflashed" to enable the software download, but most people that have tried have found the store staff either unhelpful, clueless, or both.......
This phone also doesn't have a miniSd cad slot to increase internal memory.
Bottom line, if you want a simple phone that works mainly as a phone without needing lots of bells and whistles, this is a gem!
