I decided to buy the sidekick because I am a huge texter..
Having bought it unlocked, I thought all will be well.
I got the phone, and the language was in German..after a couple of days wasting calling credit contacting the seller I was finally able to set it to English.
Then came the problem of 48hour authorization which one can override by pressing Menu and L
The battery life for this phone is pathetic, It keeps dropping service..meaning you would think you sent a text, but in all honesty it failed..sometimes it says message sending failed-when it actually sent the message..a very frustrating thing to you and those recieving multiple copies of your message.
Every so often, say about three time in a day, it restarts and deletes all numbers from the phone book. Thus if you had not saved any numbers on your simcard..YOU ARE SCREWED!! Next is to import sim contacts back to the phone book and this again takes ages.
The blue tooth and GSM do not work, You can upload music onto the phone..but cant use the music as a ring tone only to listen too as an mp3 player which is a no-no with the phones battery life..thus ring tones are REALLY ONLY polyphonic!!
The email and web service also do not work. This is by far the worst buy ever.
Of all the features listed, 95% do not work or are faulty.
T-Mobile is Ending the Sidekick line. I am currently a sidekick user. And yesterday i received a text messege from t-mobile stating " Sidekick data service no longer available 5/31 move to a ne plan now and get a $10 BONUS Credit applied to acct within a week of move." After recieving this message i called the Customer Service line and they stated that they are stoping the Sidekick line all together. They told me that the 3G networking is ending 5/31 and the phone will no longer be able to use any internet service. No More Email. No more Youtube. Even heard the calender and most of the phone will no longer work. They told me i could still use the phone for calls and text but will not have any internet service at all! I bought a Sidekick 2009 LX not even 10 months ago new from a T-mobile store and now all the features i bought it for will no longer work. I have been using sidekick devices for several years now and Loving the $1 a day service i recieved. ( I owned a sidekick 2008 version before this 2009 LX.
ALSO!!! They are removing the internet service from the phone and upping the charge for the plan to $70 a month for unlimited talk/text. instead of the 30 bucks a month i was paying for my current plan!
DO NOT BUY A SIDEKICK!!!!!! YOU WILL BE VERY DISSAPOINTED!!!!!!! T-MOBILE HAS Let down all of the Sidekick Users. The customer support told me that if i would go buy a $500 Android Phone they would credit me $10 to my account but they couldnt do anything else for me.
PLEASE!!! Search in Google or Yahoo about it. i used "Sidekick data changes 5/31" and im sure you can find a lot of upset Sidekick users!!
I am trying to save all those buyers that LOVE the sidekick as i do too!! But they will be worthless in a couple of months.
I hope i just saved ya from buying a rippoff!!!
I foolishly assumed I could still use this device as a texting only slide phone. When it came, it wouldn't connect with T-Mobile. So I contacted T-Mobile. They said it "could" work as just a phone, but why not connect to the full Web access for a free 30 day trial? OK, my 30 day torture is up. It pocket dials with the toggle. It CAN'T download my phonebook- so I have to manually enter every contact I have. What's worse, when I called T-Mobile today to cancel the free Web access before I get nicked the $50 a month, I'm told come May 31, this phone will be totally USELESS! It won't store ANY data, numbers, photos, etc... The rep at T-Mobile could have shared that info, and I wouldn't have kept the phone. Now that I've had it for a month, it's mine.
And it was pretty frustrating for the rep today to tell me that this phone has been discontinued for several years and pretty much obsolete.
I feel TOTALLY misled into believing this is a phone I could use for at least a few months. Irregardless of the Web access issue.
My contract doesn't renew until July. I'll be shopping for a simple little flip phone...
I bought the new Motorola Sidekick a month ago and it started out great but suddenly it doesn't work properly. When i type there are lots of typos which appear on the phone by itself. It keeps going to picture messaging again by itself and some of the letters on the QWERTY board dosen't work. I don't recommend the phone to be bought by anyone else.
I bought the sidekick for my husband not knowing it had been discontinued by T-Moble. This meant that if he turned it off ever he would have to re enter all his personal data including contacts. The kiosk at the mall wouldn't even touch it. We found a T-Mobile store that got it working. 2 days later it stopped working and we are unable to start it again. My husband is back using his old phone and we are out the price of the phone.
I thought this was going to be a great phone, but it took FOREVER to get it.. (almost 3 weeks from the time of purchase)but when I got the phone, I didn't like it at ALL!!! First off, the phone doesn't hold a memory card.. I love taking pictures, so what is the use of a phone that doesn't even have a feature for holding more than 30 pics? Second off, When I inserted my t-mobile sim card, this phone wasn't compatible with my sim card. I asked for a refund, but the company wouldn't do a refund.. only an exchange. So what's the point of even using the damn thing??
I bought the Motorola Sidekick slide for my T Mobile replacement phone. In the one week i had this phone, i was at the T Mobile service counter 7 times. It wouldn't accept my sim card, myfavs program, the camra would not work, it kept shutting itself off... finally i sent it back. And since T Mobile doesn't try to keep their current customers, i am now looking at other services.
T-mobile: first this is not the best company for tech support (Reset the device, that don't work we'll send you out a new one).. Here in Tucson AZ, if you live on the outer rim of Tucson, forget the signal.. its gone. While in Tucson, the calls would drop.
Sidekick: I bought my Sidekick BRANDNEW! I got the horrible contract with it too. one month of light usage, the scroll wheel broke. Nice enough they replaced it with a "refurbished" unit. The second one kept rebooting for no reason. The third one I got, the function buttons were so stiff that they would not click. By the 4th one T-mobile was even telling me they were a piece of junk that I would continue to have this problem and that I should upgrade to a Black Berry or palm. I just gave up with T-mobile and there Sidekick.

T-Mobile is ending all sidekick phone service. You are bidding on a useless phone. T-Mobile will not activate any new sidekick data plans. All sidekick listings should clearly state this information. None of the advance functions will work on T-mobile or any other carrier.
Phone was used and defective! Sold as new and when received it looked used and when called T-Mobile because I was having issues with my contacts disappearing I was informed they looked in their system and noticed that phone was over 2 years old and defective. I knew something was wrong because everything continued to get wiped out and I would loose all my contacts every single day! STAY AWAY!
