Greatly enjoyed

While the built-in packaging is not as easy to use as simple slim cases, this particular set of DVDs come the closest of any of the Miss Marples or Poirots I have seen (meaning only the David Suchet and Joan Hickson versions) to actually following the original story. While some portions of the story are removed (as always) for the sake of time, there is far less of the extraneous material that movie makers somehow feel inclined to replace it with. The Body in the Library and A Murder is Announced are the longest of the Joan Hickson Miss Marple movies, with 159 minutes each (about two and a half hours!), while A Pocketful of Rye is about average length, at 103 minutes. The first two are the ones that are much more faithful to the story. A Pocketful of Rye is well-done, but a little more inclined to follow the example of the earlier Miss Marples by adding material. (As often as this is done, it must be popular with most people, but I usually have to watch it after I've forgotten all the details of the book to avoid irritation.) One thing that might annoy some is that the shows were originally broken into 2 or 3 parts each to air on TV. Those breaks are still in existence, with the credits/intoduction being shown between each part. Still, on the whole, I very much enjoyed this set, and would gladly recommend it to Agatha Christe fans.

Joan Hickson as Miss Marple

Joan Hickson is Miss Marple as you have always imagined her--a little old lady, deceptively shrewd at solving murders. She's joined by equally talented actors in 3 highly entertaining mysteries. This dvd is difficult to find, so I was delighted to discover it on E-bay for a reasonable price. The background information at the end about Joan Hickson and David Suchet, who portrays Hercule Poirot, is worth watching, although it's sometimes difficult to hear due to background noise during filming. If you're an Agatha Christie fan, this is a set that's not to be missed.

Absolute Marple Treasure

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

'A Body in the Library'
'A Murder is Announced'
'A Pocketful of Rye'
3 OUTSTANDING Marple mysteries starring Joan Hickson - THE #1 Miss Marple!! Agatha Christie's friend who she herself said would be the best Miss Marple if Joan Hickson ever saw fit to play the part !!
These are not easily found in conjunction with any other Marple mysteries because each is a 3-part film. So, as a boxed set, this is quite a find!!
If you are an Agatha Christie or murder mystery buff, you will find no better
than the quiet, old, unsuspecting,....RAZOR sharp minded,...Miss Jane Marple!!!

An excellent portrayal of Ms. Marple!

Joan Hickson does a wonderful job of bringing Agatha Christie's detective, Ms. Marple to life. These 3 adaptations are well done. While not exactly like to novels, they are fun to watch. I think anyone who enjoys Agatha Christie books or any of the BBC mystery shows will enjoy these movies. I watch these every few months and enjoy them each time.

Miss Marple

I love these movies. Had all of them on VHS and now would like to have all of them on DVD. Miss Marple is my favorite mystery solver of all. I like all of the women who have played her. Agatha Christie is the greatest. Looking forward to having them all.

Miss Marple, Volume 3 Gift Set

The "Miss Marple" series with Joan Hickson is very entertaining. This older series has such good texture and holds true to the original books. I highly recommend them to all who enjoy Agatha Christie novels.

Compelling and fun

I am a Miss Marple and Agatha Christie fan and this adaptation of the three stories exceeded my expectations. Geraldine McEwen is by far my favorite actress in the Miss Marple role and plays the part exquisitely.

Miss Marple

Joan Hickson is the quintessential Miss Marple. Others have played the part well but I think even Dame Christie thought Ms. Hickson the perfect actor for this series. Of course, the plots are well developed from the Miss Marple books and the acting superb. The episodes are watchable whenever the mood strikes for sleuthing.

Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

I bought this collection because it completed my set of Miss Marple mysteries starring Joan Hickson. I love it. I especially like the packaging because all 3 CDs are included together in one attractive and convenient folder.
