The X700 film is simply excellent, it's old, it uses film, but it's absolutely great. It's program mode makes it easy for noobs who cant determine a shutter speed yet. It uses MD lens, and they're not very hard to find, in fact, you can find plenty on ebay for cheap. It uses 2 little watch style batteries which are also easy and cheap. The quality of the pictures depend on your skill and film you're using. 400 will give you standard point and shoot pictures while 800-1000 will give you amazing quality shots. For most of the price you find around ebay, it's usually a good deal. But make sure you know what you're getting into, film photography is nothing like digital, it's more work, effort and skill.
I learned photography with this model in the late 1980's. I sold it many years ago and regretted it. I recently purchased some for my daughter and myself to take up photography again and compared to even today's standard, the quality and ease of use is just outstanding. If you are a just point and shoot type person or the type that wants to be able to play with all types of settings and special affects, this camera is for you either way. It does not auto focus but that is really over-rated for real quality photos and art anyway in my opinion! I do recommend you purchase a new light seal kit for the rear door as most older SLR cameras foam seals get sticky and leak light. They are also available on eBay and are very easy to install.
was looking for a camera that was bigger than what I had, have not taken any pictures with this one yet but I like the feel of the camera, it is a well built , Clean, without scratches on the lens . I truly believe this camera will be one that I will use for many years, I am looking forward to using the camera will let everyone know how my first pictures turn out. I am hopeing this camera will take some action shots that I have been trying to get of my grandaughter playing softball, that is why I bought the camera. My Grandaughter is a great softball player and I am missing some great action shots with the camera that I have, really hopeing that this one is the one I am looking for to do the job I need to do. I have purchased several cameras for the purpose of taking action shots this one seems to be just what I want so far.
This review is general to the Minolta X-700 camera body. They are well made, good looking 35m SLR cameras that have a great hand feel and balance to them. Easy to use but fairly feature packed (auto exposure modes and full manual)
If building a "system", high quality lenses are readily available & fairly inexpensive.
The only short fall is the use of a fabric horizontal shutter instead of a vertical metal one. This limits flash sync to 1/60 of a second.
I finally broke down and made my first E-Bay purchase. My daughter wanted to learn how to take pictures on a 35mm film camera. Since my father had given us his old Minolta X-700, it was a brand and quality that we were familiar with. The problem was that my father's camera's shutter was broken and the cost to fix it far exceeded the value of the camera. The recommendation of the camera shop was to look on E-Bay. After 3 attempts to buy a similar camera on E-Bay, we hit the jackpot. The camera we found included 2 additional lenses and a camera bag. My daughter is now learning on a camera that "didn't break the bank". It was delivered in great condition within 2 days and what we saw was what we got!
I love my Minolta X-700 35mm. It is fun to use and shoot pictures with. It is easy to use because it has a automatic setting if you don't know how to use all the shutter and exposure settings. It also has advanced settings for advanced photography.
The x-700 is a light, quick pointing slr camera! It is very capable of producing clear, sharp images. It is based on tried and true technology. Its size and weight are pleasant and not
burdening to the user. Lens changing is quick and secure, the
viewfinder bright and straight-forward. Any one interested in film photography will be happy. I like it better than the Cannon
AE-1 or the Nikon FG. I would stack the Minolta lenses against anyone's for amateur photography.
If your creative juices are causing you to want to explore more avenues, then try going back to film. The X-700 35 mm camera is great for backlighting, and other lighting effects. It is great for shooting items and people during dusk and other low light settings. Do go beyond digital! Expand and vary your portfolio.
I was amazed when i got this camera. Ive been collecting film slr cameras and i have to say this is probably my favourite so far.. its super light and easy to use.. i just got it today already on my 5th roll of film.. cant wait to see how the pictures turns out.. again, the feel of the camera is amazing and to hear the click of the shutter.. hmmmmmm............. *drools*
I bought this product because of its history! I am learning how to develop my own prints and my research led me to the Minolta x700. It is easy to use, heavy but not unmanageable, and still a star in its field.
I also own a digital SLR and although it brings immediate gratification, it doesn't compare with the satisfaction of bringing about your own results.
I would highly recommend this camera to any photography student serious about learning the basics from the ground up.
I like the feel of the camera, the pictures that you get cannot be duplicated by digital, the real deal, especially outdoors, excellent quality and very easy to use. makes the best for larger photos for framing. with the telephoto lens even far away shots are close and clear. seller delivered fast and was better than described.
