METROID PRIME 2: ECHOES FOR THE NINTENDO GAMECUBE

Metroid Prime 2: Echoes for the Nintendo Gamecube is truly a great game. The control style is exactly the same as the original Metroid Prime so you wont be spening any time learning the new controls. There are a few different beam weapongs you can get in this game, dark and light matter gun, and this gmae also offers the screw attack as originally seen in Super Metroid. There is even something called the annihilator beam! The main difference though is that the game is split into two worlds (light and dark). You have to travel between the two to unlock doors, acquire items and solve puzzles. Basically it's the same idea of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past if you've played that game. One thing overall I'd say about this game compared to the original is that it's a lot harder. The difficulty of the puzzles in general aren't too bad, but being that it's two seperate worlds in one, that makes it harder. Also the bosses are a lot more difficult. When you get to the last leg of this game, the enemies (robots) are quite hard to beat, some of them needing three super missiles to take down, and your timing has to be exact or your shot will do no damage. The graphics on this game are absolutely amazing, you won't be dissapointed on that score. Also, not a Metroid game since Super Metroid for the SNES offers as impressive music which conveys an ambience of being in a creepy situation/environment. You will recognize some of the tunes from the Metroid games of old too, which I find pretty cool. I think any gamer playing this game for the first time, it would be fair to point out one thing also: There is one last thing you must do before going on to the main boss to beat the game, you have to get 12 keys to unlock the last door and they are scattered throughout the entire game and all 12 are in the dark world inside a creature you cannot see without using a special visor. You can look for these creatures on your own but be aware it will take you a long time to do so. This is probably one of the hardest and frustrating elements to this game, after you've gone through so many trials and tribulations to get to that point and now you have to go on a wild treasure hunt. It's not too bad though. Find the ones you can and look up the rest online if you're getting overly frustrated. There also is unlockable content, photo galleries of rough drawings trying to show the development of the game. I honestly find this extra not to hold much water, but that's just me. You can unlock these extras by scanning a certain percentage of scannable objects just like the original, from creatures, to items, and lore. This game also offers a 2 player mode which is actually quite good, if you have a buddy or two or three to duke it out (you all will play as Samus). But yes, another impressive Metroid game from the long standing series from Nintendo. This game is definitely worth your time, just buckle up for a long arduous ride.Read full review...

Echoes: Another chance

I remember playing this back then and hating it, but when I got the Metroid Prime Trilogy for sale on the Wii U, those doubts faded away.

Beautiful looking game and the soundtrack is also my favorite. THEY EVEN REMIXED BRINSTAR. The theme is light and dark and the switch between light & dark worlds can be challenging, unlocking new abilities and weapons, too

Being I played the Wii version, the controls on that console are PERFECT. I don't know how it plays on the GameCube yet, but hopefully it is not that much of an issue. Buy the game anyways and add it to your GameCube collection!

Great addition to the collection

The gameplay is very similar to the first metroid prime. You play as Samus. Your abilities are taken away at first but you work to gain them back throughout the game. This leads to increasingly difficult gameplay. Metroid fans and collectors of nintendo stuff will appreciate the experience.Read full review...

Nostalgic.

I love the Metroid series. Been fan since I was a kid. Love Samus Ridley and the space pirates. My only thing about this game is finding the temple keys. That kinda ruins the exploration but other than that it's a excellent game. Everything arrived brand new not a scratch or anything. Will recommend. 😀👍:-)Read full review...

Great games!

These games are one of the best games for the Gamecube, they're very atmospheric, and challenging. Before playing them I thought they were just FPS, but from the moment you play them you realize they're not, they're First Person Adventure games, the gameplay is great, the enviroment is incredible and so is the music. All the puzzles and gameplay in general surprised me. If you're looking for some retro games, I totally recomend Metroid Prime 1 & 2. I rated the graphics as "Good" considering they're from 2002 and 2004. The gameplay is excellent, they're really enjoyable and challenging games, one of my favorite series for the Gamecube, I totally recommend themRead full review...

A sizable improvement upon Metroid Prime.

Metroid Prime 2: Echoes is the next installment in the Metroid Prime series, continuing with the adventures of Samus Aron. Samus receives a distress call from the planet Aether and goes to investigate it. What she finds is a world in a state of flux, which damages her gunship and leaves her stranded. Following with Standard Metroid procedure, Samus loses all of her equipment at the beginning of the game and has to systematically recover it. Along the way Samus recovers some Luminoth technology to help her combat the evil Ing.
Metroid Prime 2 is more challenging than its predecessor. With Darkling infestation of familiar enemies such as Space Pirates and Pillbugs and the Poisonous Atmosphere of Dark Aether, Metroid Prime 2 is certainly no pushover.
With the improvement upon the scanning system (color coded now instead of those annoying scan boxes) and more puzzles and bosses to decode and conquer, Metroid Prime 2 is certainly a great purchase for any Metroid Fan. However, if you are making your first foray into the Metroid series, I would suggest the original Metroid Prime to get yourself accustom to the control scheme and the way the game play before taking on Echoes. Metroid Prime 2 is definitely one of the gems of the Game Cube library that should be added to any adventurous gamer's collection.

I have been avoiding this game forever and now I know why. Fan made quality

I have been avoiding this game forever and now I know why.

Metroid Prime 2 was basically sported as an orginal game by Retro Studios compared the last game. Meaning Retro was able to make there own story using the Metroid Universe.

Like the last game, a meteorite struck the planet and the ( Unmentioned ) Chrozo race on the planet are constantly at war with the beings that created a mirror of this planet. You basically just want to get off the planet, but you can't until you have solved the mystery of this world. Meanwhile Black Samus ( AKA Metroid Prime leftovers using Phanzon suit ) hopped a ride via a space pirate ship and caused the galactic federation unit to follow it down to the planet. Thus causing you to follow the unit.

To make things even funnier about this game; they some how
allowed for your suit to become stolen by black Samus; just by touring the dark world.

This holds no flame to the previous game. This entire game is basically smoke and mirrors. Remember the intro to FFX? This is basically the same thing. For the person who wants more Metroid from Nintendo and not an fan made game. For some reason I think a fan made Metroid ( any fan made game ) would be better then this game. In fact this game is probably better then "Other-M" which butchered the Samus character.

I just hope I could fight more Space Pirates and not weird looking creatures that are bland. I also do not like how they showed more of Samus face in the visor.

This game is basically and add-on to the last game. Will we fight Ridley as in the last game? Is there an mother brain clone in this game? When do we get to the Space Pirates, no really when??? Why is it when I fall off an cliff, I magically regenerate and not just get transported to another area ( like the cliff I fell from ).

Sometimes there are doors in this game that you walk through without warning so be careful of the path you use. What really bothers me is how the entire world is shrunken down to size. Of course I am talking about the doors.

What is really funny about this game, while it is basically what I want ( MORE 3D METROID GAMING ). It is really really funny how the cover of this game have an holographic reflective look. Because without that, the cover looks like an futuristic sterling, euro, dollar bill or an id card.

Otherwise I will have to see how this game goes along.

A masterpiece. The best Metroid game to date.

The anticipated sequel to Metroid Prime is here... with a bang. Metroid Prime 2: Echoes is a first person adventure game where you are the bounty hunter, Samus Aran, the heroine of Nintendo's Metroid series.

Storyline

We join Samus as she's starting her next mission after the events of Metroid Prime. Galactic Federation troops have activated a distress signal on a docile planet called Aether, and Samus's orders are to respond to the call and solve the problem. The Galactic Federation had chased a group of Space Pirates to Aether, when something happened. She arrives in the midst of a thunderstorm that damages her ship, and is barely able to make a safe landing. Leaving her ship while it repairs itself, she discovers what's left of the troopers, and uses their computer logs to determine what happened.

She discovers that Aether, in fact, is far from peaceful. A meteor strike had caused a dimensional disturbance on Aether, splitting the world into two dimensions; one light, and one dark. The habitants of Aether, a race called the Luminoth, are at war with the dwellers of Dark Aether, shapeshifting monsters called the Ing. The space pirates were on Aether because they were searching for Phazon, the deadly substance from Metroid Prime. What's more, a Samus lookalike has appeared, clad in a black and blue powersuit. This "Dark Samus" is also seeking Phazon, though whether she is on the side of either the Ing or the Space Pirates remains to be seen. Unable to leave the planet, Samus has no choice but to get to the bottom of this.

Upon meeting U-Mos, a surviving Luminoth, your goal is laid out for you. Aether and Dark Aether share the same energy and life force, and the Luminoth and Ing are at war for this energy. By this time, most of the planet's energy is in Dark Aether, and the planet is dying. It's time to do something about that.

Objective

Aether and Dark Aether both have energy controllers, found inside temples. Samus' job is to get inside each of the temples of Dark Aether, and transfer the energy she finds there to it's counterpart on Aether. Easier said than done. To get inside of these temples in the first place, you'll need to find a set of "keys" to open the door to the temple, and getting these keys means exploration, solving puzzles, acquiring powerups for your suit, and defeating everything that opposes you. Upon collecting the keys and entering the temple, you'll be forced to fight a powerful temple guardian before access to the energy controller is granted. Enter every temple, defeat every Guardian, and bring back energy to Aether, and it will be saved, and Dark Aether will be destroyed.

Gameplay

The bulk of the game plays exactly the same as Metroid Prime. Same controls and physics. I highly recommend you play and finish the first Metroid Prime before playing this one, because without doing so, you will be confused and the game will be much more challenging than it already is. Even for Metroid Prime veterans, this is a very large, deep, and challenging game.

You'll spend much of the game in combat. Some of the creatures you find aren't aggressive and won't attack you unless provoked, some will attack you on sight. If you run into Space Pirates, they will attack you as soon as they see you. Trust me; they want you dead. Like every other Metroid game, Samus' combat abilities are directly related to her powersuit, which boasts a Power Beam that acts as a gun.
