When Disney decided to do Robert Louis Stevenson's Kidnapped in 1960, they managed to turn a classic
novel into an enjoyable movie that lasts only about one and half-hours. The real genius of this film is that it captures scenes right out of the book, while bypassing some of those more tragic moments that depicted the bitter conflict between the English and the Scottish Highlanders. In other words, the film made you feel
like it did justice to what Stevenson wrote without being too harsh on younger Disney audiences. Actually
filmed in Scotland, Kidnapped has a lot of wonderful scenery.
Beautiful scenery & music, a sailing ship swashbuckler favorite since I was a kid; Story gets a bit complex at times when referring to conflicts between clans & rulers, but a good film and dvd. The murderous uncle and sea captain who kidnaps the nephew are appropriately scary, and the nephew's sense of honor rules his friendships.
Nothing compares to a Disney film like this . We used to watch this on The Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday nights . No other film of Kidnapped comes close to this one . Just seeing Peter O'Toole in one of his first Movie is pretty great . When I saw this for sale , I had to buy it . Did not want Disney to put it back into the vault. We will treasure this movie and will watch it again
My Mother wanted this for a Christmas gift this year. So I went hunting and like always found it here on Ebay. She has enjoyed it very much, Thanks.
Robert Louis Stevenson wrote Treasure Island and 3 years later he wrote Kidnapped, so it makes sense that this movie (Kidnapped) is similar to Treasure Island. It is about a young man named David. The story starts off when David's father dies, and David has to now live with his uncle. David soon finds out that his uncle is not a kind man, and he is poor. David inherited the house in which his uncle lives in, but he is not willing to part with the house. The uncle tricks David onto a ship. Once David was on the ship, his uncle sailed away leaving David behind. David must find his way back home inorder to claim his inheritance. This Leads to a journey on the high seas, and on land. He eventually makes it back home, where he tricks is uncle into admitting that he had David kidnapped. In the end the uncle is taken away, and David becomes the new master of the house. Thank you.
