Since it looks like Sony have bought the format wars by throwing money at the studios to go Blue-ray exclusive, I decided to get as many HD DVD version of my favorite movies so far. The resolution is fantastic, and the ability of controlling the special features or soun, screen & languages options while watching a movie is what's makes HD DVD the true format for true movie enthusiasts... but anyway, Harry Potter & the Globet of Fire looks amazing in 1028i (I don't have the HMDI cable yet), the features are must-have for any Potter fan. So far Goblet has been my favorite Harry movie yet, being a good mix of action, humor & suspense. Althoug the script is ovbiously different from the book (I didn't really missed the house-elfes or the Rita Skeeter mini-plots), I enjoyed the Harry-Cho & Hermione-Victor Krum-Ron subplots, because they served more than a deviated, as a time off to relax, and have a laugh, after all the drama & conmotion on the first 40 minutes.
I love the Harry Potter book series, and the movies are wonderful! Of course, it couldn't be completely true to the book without being four hours long, but it got close! The acting was great, and many of the characters were exactly as I imagined them! From Hermione's slightly superior tone, to Ron's hiliarious facial expressions, to beautiful Hogwarts, the movies are some of the best book adaptations I've seen!
Oustanding visuals, darker story, and easily the best out of the first four movies. If you are a Potter fan, you need to get the two-disc version instead of the regular release. The extras more than make up for the few dollars difference - Also, this version does not have the slipcase like the first two collector's editions. It is packaged the same way as the third. I assure you that you will not be disappointed with this film if you have liked the previous movies - I can't wait for The Order of the Phoenix to be released on DVD!
What is so great about the harry potter films is that they grow with your child, they become more intelectually stimulating and more emotionally involved. This film is deffinatly not for your very young children as it addresses the topic of death and has many scary sceens. You 9+ year old should be very much glued to the tv though... heck you'll be glued to the tv!!
I bought this movie after I read the book. I liked only two things about this movie---the Triwizard Tournaments and the Yule Ball. What I didn't like: The fact that if you ONLY watch the movie, but don't read the book, you end up missing a huge chunk of the Harry Potter story/experience.
Although the movie is fairly easy to follow, in order for one to appreciate the movie, one HAS to read the book also. Period.
I bought this for my 32-year old daughter. We are all big fans of the Harry Potter books and this is one of my personal favorites. I wasn't surprised that I was a little let down with the movie. That being said, I still enjoyed it alot. They did a pretty good job at deciding what to cut. The actors are getting better with every installment.
I liked this one movie best out of the five currently out. The action is great fun. And the sequences, especially with the dragon, are well done. The actors' performances have improved as the Hogwarts years go by. And Ralph Fiennes did an amazing job playing Voldemort.
What can I say? This is the best and worst of the movies so far. It was one of my favorite books and my favorite movie. The problem is that they cut to many sub plots such as Dobby the House-Elf. Also they went from Chapter 9 in the book to like Chapter 11 in a second. Other than that, it was a terrific movie. Much darker than the first three, but they will just keep getting darker as we go to 7. You have to at least rent this movie though, because it does keep with the main story. Just get the regular one disc because the deleted scenes in my opinion are HORRIBLE!
I'm a total Harry Potter dork so I had to get this 2-disc version, since I have the widescreen edition, and it's the only one I DON'T have that's a 2-disc. Now, I do!! ^__^
This wasn't my favorite Harry Potter movie, but it definitely lived up to expectations. It was great.
