I'm actually very pleased with this product! It's very cheap, and very good quality. There are, however, a couple of things that I feel I should point out.
First, the case that it comes in is a standard mass production case that most multi-disc sets use. Don't expect a lavish collectable case, especially for the price. The case is still very durable, and allows all of the movies to be stored in a small amount of space.
Second, the films in this set ARE NOT THE SPECIAL EDITIONS. They are standard edition, as if the first disc from each movie was put in here. While there are some special features, there are not a lot.
Next, the discs themselves appear to be great quality. All of mine worked extremely well, and there were no defects whatsoever, save one thing. The disc that I received for Deathly Hallows Part 1 is missing a cover. The disc is all black, and the title and copyright information are on there, but there is not picture. This, however does not in any way affect the viewing of the movie, and is only an aesthetic concern.
Also, the box that the DVD's come in is not the absolute best quality, but it is sturdy. It serves it's purpose, and it looks very nice!
Please note, if you want something that's collectible, DO NOT BUY THIS SET. There are others out there that will better suit your needs. However, this set satisfies all of the casual viewers' needs. It presents the movies in an accessible, affordable manner, and is absolutely a great buy! I recommend this to all Harry Potter fans who wish to have all of the movies!
This is a great deal if you're not interested in special features or any particular language other than English, as some discs are mix&matched to offer Spanish and French translations.
Disc One and Disc Eight in particular have very poor disc images - lots of pixels - and all discs have initial troubles playing. For example, in an Xbox 360 the discs will make a very high and startling whirling sound that persists for quite a bit. In an optic drive, such as a computer, it doesn't occur; it may be a result of, again, poor image quality on the discs' surfaces. Not entirely sure.
All in all, a good buy for the price; for people wanting special features, languages and good quality images (thus no clunking/whirling disc sounds), this isn't for you.
If you've got a long, rainy weekend ahead of you and have every intention of enjoying a good twenty hours on the sofa, nab yourself this Potter-a-thon. The films are satisfying, entertaining, and manage to engage the viewer without demanding much in return. They stand alone pretty well, too. In fact, while they thread fairly well as a film series, you'd do best to think of them as a different creature than the books. Sometimes (I'm looking at you, film #7), they cut out the one scene with the ten seconds of exposition that would have made a dozen other plot points make sense. To their credit, though, they're still fun to watch.
This particular set is pretty bare. You get a box with a bunch of flippy disc holders in it, and there's one disc per movie. (Curiously, they're slightly out of sequence in the box, even though they came brand new.) I get the sense that they just took the first disc of what was a two-disc set when the individual film came out on DVD, stuck it in a different box, and relabeled it as a collection. Some discs just happen to have a couple of special features attached; most do not. It seems slapped together. But all the discs work fine, and if you want 20-something hours of comfort film, this is an amazingly economical way to do it.
Harry Potter movies will never get old for me. The only bad thing about this particular collection is that it doesn't offer very many Special Features (i.e. featurettes with the actors, behind the scene clips, interviews with the actors etc.). Also the Language settings aren't consistent (i.e. some discs offer French subtitles some do not, kinda random). But if it's just the movies you're interested in, this will be more than sufficient.
I bought the Harry Potter film collection for my 8 year old
grandson. He has read most of the books and loves the movies.
I highly recommend them. The movies bring the books to life.
The whole family is enjoying the films and the price is right.
If you are going to watch a film with sequels, it is desirable to watch them in the proper order. These films are frequently offered at various times on HBO, Cinemax, etc, however they are never in proper sequel and, even if they were, they are too long to watch in succession so, I bought the 8-film collection on ebay. The price was good. The discs are in good shape and I can now watch them, in the proper order when it is convenient for me. I am satisfied. What else is there?
Got the set for my wife as a christmas gift. She is a Harry Potter Fanatic. Dvd's arrived very promptly. However, have a concern with the way they play. On the title menues as well as the first 20 to 30 mins of each movie there is a horrible spinning clicking and whirring noise that the dvd's make. Then it goes away. Almost like the dvd's are made poorly and are not perfectly round. Other than that, good buy especailly for the price and the convience of having the entire series in one package.
For the price this collection can't be beat, though there are some obvious reasons it's not as expensive as other box sets. There are no extras at all, just the 8 films which is fine but could be a bummer for enthusiasts. The printing on the inside of the box set is a little odd. I can't put my finger on it, but at first I thought these were counterfeit DVD's because the images printed on the discs looked a little cheaply done. the movies play fine though which is really what matters. So if you don't mind missing special features and some lame printing quality on the actual discs, get this affordable version of the collection. Otherwise get one of the cooler box sets with specials and extras and stuff.
I am a cheap person. I like to get nice things at a bargan price. To do this, you have to be careful, but you have to take some calculated risks. Although I classify as a senior citizen I enjoyed reading the Potter books and watching the movies with or without my kids. This was a set of the movies without a lot of "special" stuff that seldom gets watched. The price was great since it said the cover of the case was broken (small crack). Even had the case been destroyed, I would still have the dvd's. Watch out for great deals like this and it makes e-bay a great experience. Be aware that you might be dissapointed sometime. For this purchase, I wanted the movies. I like the quality of the purchase and there is no down side as far as I am concerned. As far as I am concerned, this purchase is head-and-shoulders above others I could have made.
I got the set on time and in perfect condition. I was disappointed to find that, contrary to the description in the eBay ad there are no extra or deleted scenes in this set, which was an important factor in buying it. I contacted the seller who responded immediately with an offer to refund in full or I could keep the set and get a 25% refund, which I did.
So the ad was not accurate, but the seller made good on it. I hope he has changed the description!
I would recommend the seller but not the product unless the description has been changed.
