One of my all-time favorite movies. This release is much better than the single disc version that came out a couple years earlier. The picture here is a high-definaition transfer of the original print. Audio is presented in 5.1 Dolby Digital.
Intensley directed by John Carpenter, this post-apocalyptic flick features Kurt Russell as the hero turned felon, turned hero Snake Plissken. He is given an offer to rescue the President after his plane goes down inside The New York City maximum security prison.
I saw this movie as a teen and when it was released in 1981, the year 1997 seemed SO far away. Well here we are 10 years after that date and New York is far from the way it was depicted here.
There are some nice bonus features in this set. There is a deleted opening scene that although is unnecessary, totally tells the tale of how Snake got to be in trouble to begin with.
The film also stars some great supporting characters. The Duke of New York is played by Isaac Hayes and he is one BAD DUDE.
Overall an excellent set put together the way it should be.
Escape from New York is a fast paced, high-octane action packed cult classic. By far one of John Carpenter's greatest films. Kurt Russell delivers with a mind-blowing on the edge of your seat performance as lone warrior Snake Pissken. The 2 disc special edition collector's set is loaded with a arsenal of bonus features like deleted sceens, audio commentaries, photo galleries along with much more! This must have collector's set also includes an exclusive Comic Book. This set is a great addition to a movie buffs collection.
I had not watched this film in many years, maybe since it first ran in the early 80's. Don't know why I suddenly decided to order the DvD. I may have just run across it on Ebay. At any rate, what a surprise that it was re-released in a director's cut with extras and commentary. Fans of the movie have no doubt long-discovered this version and commented on it sufficiently.
Watching the movie again after almost 30 years I was struck by how may truly bad "copy-cat" science fiction, wanna-be cult classics have been made since then, and impressed at how truly superlative this movie was, and still is today. Given its limited budget, it could not have been made any better at the time it was shot in '79. In fact, one could argue that the limited budget actually encouraged creativity that helps to set it apart from "modern" science-fiction movies.
If you have not seen the movie in years, this movie will surprise you, just as it probably did when you first experienced it.
This is one of the best apocolyptic films ever filmed. Kurt Russell plays one of the best action hero/villian to be created. It is to bad that they could not capture the same fire and intensity with the follow up Escape from L.A. The movie itself flows and once it starts it does not let you go till the end. The special features of the second disc also are great for those people who tend to buy special edition dvds just to get the features that they have not seen. I would recomend this to any of my friends as one of my top 10 favorite action movies of all time.
He has that bad boy attitude and doesn't care what anybody else think. New York City. has bin turned in to a prison and they made it a Dark and dangers place and snake must save the president. if you like Kurt Russell you have to see this movie.
One of the best movies ever made. Kurt Russell does an excellent job portraying Snake Plissken. Lee Van Cleef as Hauk and Ernest Borgnine as Cabbie are amazing.
LOVE this movie!!! One of my top 5 favorite films of all-time!!! Definitely one of Kurt Russell's and John Carpenter's best films!!!
Don't sound to bad.
But in 1981 this was the movie to see.(if your 16).
A cult classic now and if you have not seen it yet,
it's not to late ! cool flick!!
Well of course it's good otherwise I wouldn't have bought it. I spend hours researching such purchases on the web. Then I go to eBay and find out who's selling it cheapest on the planet. So I buy it and if it's junk, I resell it on eBay for no loss. What a wonderful time in history.
I purchased this movie because I owned it for years on vhs and wanted it in my dvd library, it is one of many good Kurt Russell movies.
