Too much hastle for too little service

This printer has been nothing but a thorn in my backside since the warranty ran out. It seems that no matter what you do to baby it along it will not produce the goods (print your document/picture). The printer offers suggestions to make it work but none of the suggestions work or come without the cost using up a ton of ink.
The Epson Stylus C82 uses its own very expensive ink cartridges, which are not refillable because of a chip on the cartridge. The cartridges you remove when you replace them can be shook and you can hear/feel ink remaining in there, which you know that you will have to throw away. May as well stand next to the toilet and toss in dollar bills one by one and flush them down.
One consolation is that you can purchase aftermarket cartridges on eBay for a much better price than the manufacturer. But, even saving on eBay buying ink, you will go broke feeding this machine due to its own faulty mechanics. I do not recommend this printer, period.
Recent research has showed me that I should have done more homework before purchasing this Epson. It's not even ranked in the top 5 of printer choices. Also, the aftermarket ink cartridges are unreliable 70% of the time and may cause poor printouts or clogged jets. I am looking into the HP line and found that they are ranked #1. I'll let you know when I buy one with a review of it.

P.O.S.

I bought one of these based on consumer reports saying it was the best bang for the buck. Hooked it up, and it worked awesome, would print at amazing speeds and very clear photos. I don't print much, and the first ink carts lasted about a year, then I put it a second set, and it never printed another page again. Epson wanted a big pile of money to fix it, something about the ink feed tubes coming undone, blah blah blah, couple hundred bucks in wasted ink later, I went and bought a Canon Pixma for 50 bucks, can kick it, drop it, freeze it, throw it, swear at it, works perfect every time. Inks are also 6 and 13 dollars for it, where the Epson ones are in the mid 20s to low 30s...and still half full when you toss em, did you hear about the lawsuit?? I recommend buying one of these and then driving over it just for the satisfaction of the crunch. Epson goes on the list with Motorola for junk that never gets a place in my home.Read full review...

A true genie

In spite of having a rather suspicious nature the feedback on this item persuaded me to try it as the alternative was to splash out on a new printer. I am delighted to say that it worked and I now have a functioning printer again. Instructions were idiot proof i.e. I could understand them perfectly and cd was simple to use. Also dispatched really quickly which is great when printer is out of action. I would recommend this, after all at the price it is worth a try. I'm certainly glad I found Printer Genie and will tell my friends.Read full review...

after 3 years, works well, but needs periodic care

I've used one for 3 years. Prints fast and well, though there is a delay before the first pages starts if the printer was recently turned on. Because it does consume all the different pigments rather fast, I swithed to off-brand ink rather than Epson, and that costs less than half of true Epson cartridges.

The print head does clog if the printer is not used for many days. If the "self-clean" printer function doesn't clear the heads, I simply use a cotton swap with some solvent.

Eats, doesn't shoot, and leaves

I got this printer and it worked great-for a while. Then when it finished eating up toner, rather quickly I might add, I went out and spent the $60 it took to buy Epson cartridges for it. Mind you, I only paid $50 for the printer, refurbished but NIB. I loaded the new carts in and printed the test page. Nothing. So I ran head alignment. Nothing. It never worked again, no matter how many head cleanings or alignments I tried. I know printers like this are throwaways these days, but that is just plain ridiculous. Moral-buy an HP, Canon, or Apple printer for your Mac, and you will be happier. Also, make sure the toner replacement carts aren't so expensive before you buy a certain model, because that's where they get you.Read full review...

Plugs up too easily!

It prints OK unless you leave it sit for a week or so and then it plugs up the nozzles badly. You have to disassemble it and syringe a special liquid through the head to get it working again and often have to put on the plastic head cleaning hose that comes off. Don't buy one! It just clogs and clogs. The Internet if full of people posting on how to fix it or get it working. HP probably is better deal where the head is in the cartridges and gets replaced each time.
If you can get it printing--it does do a nice job.

Epson Stylus C82 InkJet Printer

I recently purchased this printer because my printer, the exact same one, finally gave out. I had just purchased and installed new ink cartridges and did not want to throw the $$$. This printer is not the fastest out there but it does produce excellent prints. I have been very happy with it.Read full review...
