Diablo III picks up the story twenty years after the events of Diablo II. Mephisto, Diablo, and Baal have been defeated, but the Worldstone, which once shielded the inhabitants of the world of Sanctuary from the forces of both the High Heavens and the Burning Hells, has been destroyed, and evil once again stirs in Tristram. Playing as a hero from one of five distinct character classes, players acquire powerful items, spells, and abilities as they explore new and familiar areas of Sanctuary and battle hordes of demons to safeguard the world from the horrors that have arisen. Diablo III features a custom 3D-graphics engine to render lush indoor and outdoor areas of Sanctuary with a high level of detail and vivid special effects. The game's physics-enhanced environments are interactive and destructible, offering traps and obstacles that create added danger for players and monsters alike. These elements, along with a new quest system and random scripted events, have been integrated into the game’s random-level generator, giving Diablo III the ultimate combination of dynamic gameplay and replayability. Cooperative and competitive play are available online through an upgraded version of Blizzard Entertainment’s renowned online gaming service, Battle.net.
The packaging is beautiful. Probably the best of all the collector editions from any Blizzard game.
The demonic USB hub and 4GB thumb drive are a work of art and would look on any table. I would have liked a bigger capacity to actually make it useful for my needs, but it is big enough for most common users.
The level of detail in the art book is amazing, and the book itself is beautifully made.
The soundtrack has the feel of continuation from the original Diablo games. I like it as background music while I am doing stuff on the computer.
If you also play WoW and are a pet collector, then you will be glad to get one more for your collection.
The addition of Diablo II and its expansion is a nice touch. Convenient for people who were planning to play Diablo II as a refresher.
Additional in-game perks include a few account bound items such as the angelic wings, which are cool and will make you stand out, and black and white dye that you can use as many times as you please.
The inclusion of the game in a DVD is good, but hardly seems a fundamental need since everything is online nowadays. You still have to download gigabytes worth of data as an update to be able to play the game.
Overall, I am very happy with the Diablo III Collector's Edition purchase. Blizzard never disappoints with the packaging, content or additional perks.
There are a lot of good reviews for the game itself, so I won't spend too much time on it except to say that I am very pleased with the graphics, sound, and game content. I am a solo players and have many hours of gameplay ahead of me including leveling 5 character for all difficulty levels, and getting all the achievements. This game has a high entertainment and reply value for me.
The one thing that I am disappointed about is the requirement to be online to play the game. I understand that they need the server support for user authentication, prevent cheating, and the random regeneration of content. However, it is a pain when the connection is slow, or the servers are down or under maintenance.
This is a very limited Diablo 3 Collector's Edition. The white box that you see is well constructed and built to last as long as you take care of it. In this edition ( which is no longer made and thus limited )there are 2 games. 1) Diablo 3 Collector's Edition which most Diablo 3 players want because of the in-game items such as the Angelic Wings and rare dyes which only comes with this version ( for PC ). 2)Diablo 2 and the expansion: Lord of Destruction ( which is an older version of this franchise game ). Also included is the Diablo skull and Soulstone ( the soulstone is a 3.7gb usb thumb drive that lights up red when plugged into you usb port ), a Behind The Scene DVD, Diablo 3 Soundtrack which you can hear in-game, several guest passes for Diablo 3, and World of Warcraft, and the artwork book for Diablo 3 ( hard cover ). There are several levels of difficulty in this game which allows you progress at your own pace ( since new patch that includes paragon level and monster power level). There is a new expansion coming soon for Diablo 3 and its called Reaper of Souls. This game is online only ( pc ), but it is further progressing as the Reaper of Souls expansion will be released soon. Feel free to look for the Reaper of Souls railer on YouTube so you can see what it's about. I do recommend that if you haven't already bought this collectors edition that you should as you will only get the Angelic Wings ( which is well sought after by players ) from this edition for pc and all the great stuff like the beautiful artwork developed by the artists at Blizzard. Get your Wings and come kill some demons! See you in-game with your Wings!
I'm not kidding: I can't believe Blizzard turned Diablo III around. Two years ago when the game first launched, I never thought I'd be sitting here writing a positive review of anything branded Diablo III, and yet here we are.
Is Reaper of Souls perfect? No. And I suspect like World of Warcraft, many people will sprint through the new content, maybe raise the new Crusader class up to Level 70, and then quit when progress slows down again. But Reaper of Souls is an entertaining piece of content that, in conjunction with Loot 2.0, fixes many of Diablo III's deepest flaws. This is definitely worthy expansion in the Diablo franchise.
Very nice and very playable as a time killer as Diablo II was!!! I did get get it for free as I play WoW!! Needless to say , I still give a very high rating as it is a a very good game that you would play over and over again!!
It comes with the Angelic Wings and 2 Dye's. The game overall is fun and the exclusive in-game items are worth to show off to. Plus you get Diablo II + expansion in a neat looking Diablo stone usb flash drive. Other goodies like art book, behind the scenes, etc. make it worth getting for any Diablo fans.
- DVD commentary is very interesting, but I did not find it as unique as some other blizzard titles
- The USB soulstone is very cool, and looks great at the desk
Probably the best CE that Blizzard has done to date (and I have all of them). The inclusion of Diablo II and it's expansion is a nice addition, similar to the inclusion of StarCraft + it's expansion in the StarCraft 2 CE.
The box art is amazing, they don't skimp on the contents, and the game itself is a whole review on it's own - suffice it to say that I will be playing it for some time.
It's a great game, especially the auction house, but the cooperative experience immerses you into the world of Diablo 3, an experience of endless hours of fun, in my opinion the best game of the year.
The rating of 5 stars I find little to this masterpiece.
I love this game! I was a huge fan for Diablo 2 so when Diablo 3 was released I was stoked, but I had missed being able to buy the collector's edition which was being sold at a huge price that I was having trouble coming up with the funds. Luckily for me I found a seller who was selling the game new in a price range I could handle and I purchased it. I love the easy way to move through the game and graphics are great. What I wish they had changed about the game is camera directions I am so used to being able to get closer or zoom out or spin around in World of Warcraft that I found I look for that feature in other Blizzard games. Over all a great game and if your a fan of Diablo 2 you will feel like you've come home in this this next installment.
