I put in tons of hours on COD4 and have already logged over 5 days on COD5. The game isn't perfect, spawns are bad at times, weapon balance could be a little better for the bolt/single shot weapons. Remember that the ammunition used in WWII was much more powerful than what is used today. The 30'06 and 8mm were extremely deadly rounds. The sounds are like they were taken from archives, especially the MG42 from a distance sounds eerily real. The maps I think are truly what sets this apart from COD4, much larger and much more realistic for the time period. I think the vehicles add to the game, I think driving the tank is one of the most fun parts of the game. The flamethrower was a nice add-on, but I think adding the tanks blowing up if shot would of added more realism. The dogs are actually very dificult to kill, more than humans. Being somewhat of a WWII historian some of the times the game play reminds me of actual war footage I've seen. Body parts being blown up was another nice add-on but a little gory, but so is war. Being able to upgrade weapons and add perks like COD4 is nice, there are more perks and add-ons with COD5, plus with prestige mode you can add up to 5 extra slots for different weapons and combinations. It would be nice to be able to have a flash hider and a scope or recticle sight at the same time. The bandolier perk seems to add only a small amount of extra ammo. The reconnaisance perk should be active at all times I think. Instead of three available perks they should have four because of the large number of choices for each. You can't throw grenades as far as with COD4 either. I just saw a episode of Weaponology where they talked about the flamethrower and was surprised how accurate Treyarch was with their implementation. I find playing COD5 harder than COD4 so it's more of a challenge, plus not every person is using granade launchers "noob tubes" like in COD4. Martrydom is probably one perk that could of been deleted. The guns in COD4 seem to have very little recoil as compared to COD5 which adds to the realism. Even people who seem to hate the game while playing and prefer COD4 are amazed at a few of the effects, like watching the artillery come in. My favorite weapon the STG-44 seems to be very slow to shoot as compared to footage I've seen of the real ones, I have to add the double tap perk to make it more realistic, same with the BAR, and MP40. Some people complain the WWII genre is used up but I have to disagree, I think it's important to make the younger players aware and appreciate the sacrifices that were made by our ancestors. There are still parts of WWII untouched, like the assault on Monte Casino and the Italian mountains against the German paratroopers.
So for those players who like multiplayer shooters that depict some sort of realism, this is the game for them. I still like COD4 very much, but prefer 5. When 6 comes out I may change my mind, but until then I'll keep player COD5. Just remember it's just a game and no game I have ever played is perfect. I grew up on Medal of Honor and loved those games too, but the COD5 just one ups it in nearly every area. Maybe Treyarch didn't have to rewrite the code but at least they spent the time making some great maps and fine tuning the details which really add to the whole multiplayer experience.
I liked this game as much as the other Call of Duty games but Mdern Warfare was still the best. I bought this game mostly for the Zombie scene. The only problem with the Zombie scene is that it never ends. It can't be beat. I would have rather had a version that could be completed. The re-playability would be higher I think. If they created a game of only Zombies "that could be beat" I think it would sell well. A game based on Dawn of the Dead or Land of the Dead would be nice. The game was somewhat short. An expansion pack will probably follow as is the usual for Call of Duty. Personally I hate the scenes that involve driving a tank. I get no satisfaction from those scenes and never play them again once I beat the game. I bought this game on E-Bay for $20. I feel I got my moneys worth. I would have felt cheated paying the average price of $50. I don't find many games worth that price. I love FPS games and hope these guys keep on creating them. Good game but not excellent.
Bought game to play on lan with my son. It reguired a download to make it work. I didn't download the patch because the 1.2 patch stopped my sound from working and had to uninstalled the game and reinstall it and lost all levels of play. The manufacture needs to improve the programming for the PC before releasing the PC version and get the patches working correctly. Good single player version but coop play has problems finding people to play. It states sometimes over 100 servers on line but you are lucky if you can see 5 or 6 at one time.
Good game, just not anywhere near as good as Cod 4!! Love the new maps and all, it's not just open warfare in this one, much harder to get kills, with so many places to hide, especially with all the new mappacks.Just wish Activision or Infinity ward would find an anti-cheat system that is better then Punkbuster, to many hackers still getting into thier games.Punkbuster has to step it up, they've been takin it easy since United Offensive!!
It is a pretty good game but make sure you have a decent video card or the graphics are very choppy and it's hard to play. No reflection on the seller, the problem is my computer. But as with all COD games, it is entertaining...
The game has got a pretty good campaign with good graphics and pretty good gameplay. The multiplayer is pretty fun also not addictive however like the mw series. Nazi Zombies is what made this game how popular it is and is a very fun mod. 4/5 overall
I downloaded the free trial of COD 4 and wanted to get either that game or the new one, so I figured I might as well try the new game. The game play is a lot different from most of the shooter games I play.
Unlike most FPS I play, you don't have health in this game that goes down after being shot, you become weaker and can die if hurt too bad, but you can recover easily back to full health
I went through the entire single player on regular difficulty, not terribly difficult but not ridiculously easy. I first tried multi-player which is completely different from what I'm used to. Basically you kill people in 2 shots and it doesn't require too much skill to kill someone, just get them in your crosshair and pull the trigger. I'm used to games that if you get shot you can run away, but if you get shot you are pretty much dead. It takes getting used to, but its definately fun. The maps are good sizes and have lots of different passages and places to hide, not just a wide open area but lots of empty buildings, etc.
Also, you can create a class and there are point unlocks, which makes the game more exciting.
Overall, fun game, and if you enjoy the other call of duty games, you will probably like this one too
Overall like the game and love the character advancement in multiplayer mode. Wish I had a better PC to get advantage of the awesome graphics. Multiplayer server list is a shot in the dark cause the server pings are all crazy high, 500 and above. But when I actually log on to some severs the ping may be under 100. Very hard to pick local servers. Also do not like the way the friendlies in multiplayer names pop up slow sometimes, forcing you to take a shot at them to play it safe. I believe this game is a proper step up in the Call of Duty series.
I like the price and quality of game play, this game when it was released cost 50 dollars, I have learned to be patient and wait till the new wears off or a new game in the series is released then the price comes down,I don't like paying so much for a game because once you play it and complete it you hardly ever come back to play it again, this game was a fun realistic way to play a war shooter.
I love the graphics, and single player is entertaining. Multi-player has major issues with the spawn, while earlier games picked an area and spawned your whole team there, WAW is more random and you find people constantly spawning right where you did and shooting you in the back. I prefer COD 4 for multiplayer for that reason.
