This item is simply great. For those of you who do not want a small 2 inch music player this is for you.
It has some weight, and is a pretty good size, but nicely fits in your pocket.
Great sound output
Easy to use
Some games included
Auto pause when earphones removed
Excellent on battery life and charges quickly
If it does freeze it's easy to reboot within seconds without losing information
Can double as a storage device (Bootable and standard)
Not the easiest to break as with most players
It does have a moveable hard drive, BUT it will almost never skip, even when jumping up and down swinging it around wildly.
Sleek, nice, and easy
I'm quite a retro guy, and with older products comes size and weight...and usually simplicity. And that's exactly what this guy brings. Apple's 2nd release of its initial iPod design blew users away with a simple, easy to use interface that got music flowing fast. While by today's standards its almost primitive with a single game, no photo/video capability, and its Firewire interface, its good at what it does, and that is play music. The audio quality is amazingly good, and with 10GB, you should have no problem loading up a couple 320K MP3 albums. The battery life is amazing when new, or when replaced, but as mine was used, it only lasts a few hours, but that's with constant track switching and randomizing, so actually, its quite enough. Features are, again, in comparison, lacking. It plays music, and that's about it. But it does it so well. The design is classic, and while its not the almighty click wheel, it has the iBook White styling with a shiny scratch magnet of a metal back. It feels good to hold in your hand and go all silent rave, or to slip in your pocket and rock while walking, fits well in cupholders for use with car stereos, or if you can find the belt clip, protected at your side as you stroll. These things can go for really low prices with great additions nowadays, so the value for a cheap music player that is a classic icon of the 2000s is pretty darn good. The only thing to note is Firewire, but if you came looking for something this old, you most likely know what to do with that ;D
So! I heartily recommend it for those who know how to integrate it into their lifestyles! Its a great little music box with amazing quality: nothing beats it, in my opinion!
The 20gb clickwheel Ipod that was made in the 4th generation is head and shoulders above most everything else Apple made. Built like a tank but with those smooth Ipod lines this little guy will continue to play music and keep your contacts and appointment going for you way beyond when other MP3 players are sitting in the trash pile. Easy to understand interface with a large capacity for music and being able to walk into most Electronics stores and find accessories for this Ipod make it one of the most desired Ipods that Apple ever made. With battery life well into 6, 8, or even 12 hours of listening time it will go where you go without the need of worrying about recharging or carrying a bunch of chargers around. This Ipod is a great choice for anyone that is starting out and needs the cost of the Ipod to correspond with what your getting, the result is the Best Bang For Your Buck. Enjoy! Lee G.
The IPOD continues to be the standard for music players - and I bought one of the older ones. My 1998 truck only has a tape deck, so i bought this 20GB IPOD to use with a tape adapter in the truck. It's perfect for what I need -- sync it with the music on my computer and then have hundreds of songs to choose from while I drive to and from the hardware store. Sure, the tape adapter's not the best way to hear music, but it beats the radio and cassesstes -- and it beats the $400 I spent for a new car stereo with IPOD jack/controls.
I'm sorry for that cheesy title...lol Seriously now people, if you are contimplating buying an Apple iPod, just stop it. You must own this product. There is a reason why millions and millions of people have purchased one already, including moi. Out of all the MP3 players out there on the market today it is the most compact and easiest to use. To use an old saying, it is user friendly. A big misconception is that you must own a Mac desk top or laptop in order to upload your music to the iPod. That is untrue, it can be used on any platform. Some more good new is that you can find them for super low prices here on eBay. So what are you waiting for? Auctions are ending as you read this! Good luck.
In my opinion the 20gb iPod has the best MP3 player on the market. The combination of features, looks great, fits in my shirt pocket with ease and is so much easier to use then other MP3 devices I have used mk=akes this MP3 player a great buy.
The screen is very clear and easy to read. The click wheel and buttons a very easy to use and understand which improved me experience. The battery life is better than other MP3 players including my 40GB iPod. I like the fact the there is a tremendous amount of aftermarket products and accessories for the iPod.
Con: Dock and carrying case does not come with it. Dock is included with the 40GB version.
i love this iPod, though the battery is old; it surprisingly lasts quite a while for its age, even with the back-light on. it doesn't have many features but i never expected it to considering its soul purpose is to play music, and it does this just as well as today's iPods. the design is a brick. but to me its a beautiful brick. value is great, i got 10 gigabytes for 40$. i bought this iPod because i appreciate retro technology and like to stand out. what i dislike is just that syncing the iPod is not so easy, you may have to restore or restart the iPod a few times to get it to sync but this isn't a major flaw, its just due to its age. this iPod is still better, more durable, has more features than most other mp3 players on the market currently.
This is my first portable MP3 player and I am really glad that I made the decision to buy it! I bought an older generation iPOD because I knew I wouldn't really use the Video & Photo features of a newer model. It is compact enough to slip into a pocket when I go biking and light enough to take with me just about anywhere.
I am disappointed that the front cover scratches so easily. I am currently searching for a sport case that will protect my iPOD on long bike trips.
Overall, I am very happy with my purchase!!
Even though it's older, this iPod may be the best value right now. It has a great price, plenty of battery life (up to 12 hours), and capacity to hold all of your music (up to 5000 songs).
This model is very thin, not bulky. The clickwheel on the front is still in use on the newer models today, so Apple has stuck with that successful design.
The only drawback on this model is that the screens will sometimes break if it's abused, so don't toss it around or sit on it in your back pocket. If you need something more sturdy, get an iPod mini or iPod Photo with color screen (also out of production).
Overall, if you're looking for an iPod that does a good job of everything - this one is it.
The reason for buying this old school and chunky classic ipod is the quality of its amplifier parts old version ipod ( version I to 5.5 ).It produce a better sound quality than the new model iPod. The design may out of date. It looks similar with the current one, but thicker. Someone said it more sturdy than the new version in apple store now. But one thing to consider is the longevity of battery. Mostly can hold the charge, but not as good as the new as it ten or more years old.
If the sound quality is what you are searching for. This old school ipod will never let you down. I would recommend to the audiophile or the guys out there who serious about the sound quality rather than the look of the iPod.
