This is the first iPhone I've ever owned. I came directly from an HTC Sensation. While the phone is nice, there are alot of features that are lacking that you cannot take full advantage of unless you jailbreak the phone. For example, you cannot block unknown numbers without jailbreaking the phone and downloading an app, you cannot transfer music between an ipod and iphone unless you bought the music from iTunes, UNLESS you pay $30 for a program that will allow you to do this..same goes for downloading music from an ipod or iphone to a computer. The limitations are rediculous. I get they are there to protect the phone, but my old android never was bogged down or received viruses from any apps. I will say that the battery seems to be better, although it's pretty aggravating that the battery cannot simply be removed and replaced and that you need to pay alot of money to replace the battery or do it yourself and risk ruining the phone. Overall, the limitations of the phone are pretty disappointing, and you can only get around some of these limitations by jailbreaking. Android, in my opinion, is a much better platform and so much less limiting. The iphone 4s is pretty and it has a great display with an EXCELLENT camera. Ultimately when making a decision to purchase an iPhone or an Android-based phone, you will have to decide between severe limitations or jailbreaking, excellent camera, stylish body, and hefty price tag, even for a used phone OR a phone with alot fewer limitations, decent camera, a significantly cheaper pricetag for a used phone AND ALOT more brand options.
It's an Apple phone which means it's not as simple as it should be, though it's smaller than most Smartphone, which is a plus. I'm not use to all the features and apps available since I went directly from a flip-phone to a Smartphone and there isn't an instruction booklet. I hate the fact I can't just make a phone call without going through 6 steps or click-and-drag throughout the different windows. Drives me nuts, along with navigating (how do I delete a photograph without deleting all them?) In my Phone Book and Favorites, why can't the names be listed alphabetically automatically by the first letter instead of all them in an erratic order? Battery life is fine, but for what I paid for this phone, I wish I "got what I paid for". Please, someone tell me how to change the touch keys from silent to tone and vice-verse.
I have bought every version of Apple's iPhone and rebuilt or repaired many of them. Of all the models, this is one of the hardest and most frustrating to repair. The rear panel is a snap to replace, and the battery is not bad either, but the dock connector, cables and other key parts that go bad are near impossible! To replace the front glass, one needs to take the whole phone apart. If the phone has been password locked it is impossible to recover it.. no Jailbreak I have tried will fix this. Ever since its predecessor (the iPhone 4), I have scratched my head wondering WHY in the world would any company make phones with glass front and backs? My conclusion is that they were doing "planned obsolesence"... making them so they WOULD break and have to be replaced. Of all the iPhone versions manufactured, the one model I would recommend most is the iPhone 3gs... durable case, good speed and features and easy to repair. I can remove and replace the whole screen assembly in a matter of minutes! I can remove the main logic board to replace the battery in about 15 minutes! Leave the models 4 through 5 alone unless you buy a new one and get an extended warranty ... the odds are, they will break! My hope is that Apple will make the next model more like the iPod 4 touch screen model .. a tough steel body, a slim profile, but easy to disassemble and repair.
poor battery life. I have to charge it every day and I'm not a heave texter use the internet much. I switched from a samsung captivate and the battery life is much better. I would only recharge every 2-3 days with this phone.
The IPhone arrived with the charging port and speakers full of lint to the point the charge plug would not click into position, but would go in far enough to charge the phone. The phone's sound was very muted, even when the volume was on high. I cleaned the lint out of the charge contacts and the speakers and there was a slight improvement to the volume, but still very difficult to hear, especially in an area with the noise of other people around. The phone looks great, and all items work otherwise, but it would not serve it's purpose if it were the main household phone. You would likely never hear it ring. My wife uses it to contact me or others when necessary and therefore it gets used very little.
I had an Iphone 4s for about a month before I had to send it in the first time over a bad battery. 2 months later same thing had to send it in for another new battery. Made it 1 month down the road before that battery was not working right. All my battery's either did not charge or overheated to the point i could not hold my phone.
I have gone back to my iphone 4. The ONLY thing i miss about the iphone 4s is the camera. Sold the phone and am not impressed at all.
I didn't enjoy the phone for personal reasons. I honestly think the phone is too simple minded. No customization like an Android. There are many apps apps offered over Androids but for the most part, its not enough to make me keep it. I lasted only two weeks with it.
I should have listened to Consumer Reports but like others I drank the Apple Koolaid. This phone is average at best. The screen is small (3.5"), texting is a pain due to the small keyboard. The battery life is average most days but some days the battery drains really fast. Apple admits they have a battery issue and is working on a second patch (the first patch did not solve the issue). Another issue is the poor glass. Yes it is Gorilla glass but is so thin the glass is very likely to break. Other phones such as the Samsung Galaxy which have much larger screens have Gorilla glass but are much more durable (I assume they are thicker glass?- see YouTube 4S vs Galaxy drop tests comparison- an eye opener how bad this iPhone glass really is). I did not realize the glass issue untill I started asking others who own the phone. Several had broken their glass...and Apple charges a fortune to replace ($150 I was told). Reception and call clarity seem to be fine but no better than the Blackberry I have for my business phone. All in all a very average phone. I suspect Apple realizes this and the new 5 sries phone will have a 4.5" screen like their competitors, better glass etc....its the Apple way.
I used iphone 3gs, 4, and 4s. So my review is a general compare between the wow! Feeling that iphone gives me when i use it.
The biggest gimmick of iphone 4s is siri, it is a wise sound recognition system that recognise your voice and follow your instructions. I do not find siri convenient to use.
First, i have to talk in loud. It is weird and impoliet to talk loud to a phone in public and i am not interested to share my future schedule.
Second, poor voice recognition. It can only recognise 75% or less of my word. I would rather type it in to get 99% accuracy. It is time consuming to repeat your word again ( a few seconds ) and wait for its response ( another few seconds ). I switch off siri function in iphone 4s seriously.
I cannot find any good reason to support you spending couple hundred bucks to buy iphone 4s.
Suggestion: get an iphone 4 and get update to the ios 5 operation system, you can access to imessage (free text, graphic transfer between iphone users). Imessage is really good and easy and convenient to use.
Earpiece speaker was dead. I got it repaired which made me extra investment. Camera quality is very bad...the problem is it expose more light. In return all the photos are whitish. Rest are ok. The good thing is just cosmetic condition. Which I found exactly what it was explained
