I'm very disappointed with this product and wouldn't recommend it

No, I would not recommend this product.

I'm very disappointed with this product. The main reason I bought it was that it has wifi and I heard a lot of good opinions about it's applications. It turned out to be more of a gadget than a useful tool.

If I knew about the restrictions Apple puts on their products, I would not buy the iPhone. You can't use it as a portable drive, because you need itunes to copy your mp3s and that's it - if the phone's iOS isn't cracked, you can't copy your pics onto it or use custom themes. Even the process of making an mp3 a ringtone is ridiculous. You can't simply choose a song to be your ringtone on this phone. You have to spend 5 minutes figuring out how to copy the part of the song, change it's format, extract it to HDD and put it back to itunes, then sync and... it still doesn't show up.

Since I need an unlocked version of the phone to use it outside of USA, it has a jailbroken system. Jailbreaking lets the user put things directly to the iphone and install apps that aren't approved by Apple. It also lets the user set custom themes. It makes the system work closer to how it should have been made to be more functional. But when you try to update a jailbroken phone, itunes locks your phone from use and displays a 1015 error (makes the phone stuck in recovery mode). This is just low. I have no idea what purpose does it have? So you spend money on getting your device's system reloaded?

I managed to find software that allowed me to install the software anew and it's working now. It wasn't any software Apple provided. Basically you either have the annoying restrictions on a phone you can't even personalize easily (it normally should take a few clicks to set a new theme or ringtone, so why was it made so difficult on iPhone?). I guess it's because Apple likes to get more money from the App store and doesn't support creative programmers who offer free applications that can be used on a jailbroken phone.

As for the functionality, the phone isn't that fast. It takes around a minute to turn on and sometimes lags when browsing websites on Safari (using wifi, so it's not the connection that's to blame). The LCD keyboard is not easy to operate and the letters sometimes show up with delay or you hit the wrong button. Trying to mark an area of text can be troublesome and clicking in the middle of the address bar when you want to correct a misspelled part of the address is difficult.

The ipod part is very nice. The mp3 player works okay, so far. Playing clips from youtube works fine. On the other hand, clips featured on a humor site that features videos on their own server, not embeds them from youtube, don't load - they are shown as a picture frame.

The Web browser part could have been made much better. Opening multiple panels isn't easy to navigate and the browser lags sometimes. I like the enlarging tool. This is a very well-made part of the phone.

I didn't test how the phone manages the calls, because I didn't put in a sim card yet. There was a moment I thought of selling the device before using it as my default phone. Judging by the number of nonsense with the itunes software, I don't want to know how Apple might use the information from my calls (you never know).

Pros:

* I can brag about having an iPhone
* some apps are useful
* after jailbreaking the phone, it can be personalized
* the design

Cons:

* ridiculous restrictions
* itunes update that can lock down your phone
* lags
* no option to set mp3s as ringtones
* not easy to navigate

The phone is only good for texting

No, I would not recommend this product.

This phone was a piece of junk, it will not hold a charge. The battery has been charging for a few day's, the ebay app will not down load because the phone has been reset. The software is outdated therefore i cannot download any app's and I have taken the phone to the apple store 3 times. The phone is only goos for texting and making call's. I would not bid on any of the old phones you are buying someone else's problem you are better off to sign a new contract and get a brand new phone for the same price. I hope I get my money back because I bought a lemon.

DON'T BUY IT USED!!

No, I would not recommend this product.

Battery died on me quickly. Wasn't sure where the task manager was to exit out of task applications (that was draining the battery life). Silent to ringer button on "settings" wasn't working properly. Screen froze on me a few times. Other than that, I liked the features and the easy accessibility to apps and music. Just said that good apps with mac products must be paid for. Wanted to test drive an iphone but it really did not deliver. GOING ANDROID ALL THE WAY!!!

Would be great if I could use it...

I bought it because I wanted an iPhone to use with access to the internet and didn't exactly need a new one. So I purchased this one, because it claimed to be in "mint condition" and unlocked. I like in another country so it was important that I purchased an unlocked phone to be able to use with any SIM. But the phone is locked to all SIMS, even the one carrier in the country that I live in. It has internet service on the phone, but is unable to be used as a phone, only a fun electronic "gadget", which was NOT what I was looking for.

This leads me to believe that the phone that I purchased, was PROBABLY a stolen phone, and probably had the system blocked though the serial number after being stolen. I am very disappointed in this product, because I spent over $400 on a new phone, that does not work.

I have always been careful when purchasing items through ebay, but now will be even more weary about it.
