good movie, good story, over hyped, not accurate to history, from wikipedia: "300 is a 2007 film adaptation of the graphic novel of the same name by Frank Miller, and is a fictionalized retelling of the Battle of Thermopylae. The film is directed by Zack Snyder while Miller served as executive producer and consultant. The film was shot mostly with a super-imposition chroma key technique, to help replicate the imagery of the original comic book.
Spartan King Leonidas (Gerard Butler) and 300 Spartans fight to the last man against Persian 'God-King' Xerxes (Rodrigo Santoro) and his army of more than one million soldiers. As the battle rages, Queen Gorgo (Lena Headey) attempts to rally support in Sparta for her husband. The story is framed by a voice-over narrative by the Spartan soldier Dilios (David Wenham). Through this narrative technique, various fantastical creatures are introduced, placing 300 within the genre of historical fantasy.
300 was released in both conventional and IMAX theaters in the United States on March 9, 2007, and on DVD, Blu-ray and HD DVD on July 31, 2007. The film broke box office records, although critics were divided over its look and style. Some acclaimed it as an original achievement, while others criticized it for favoring visuals over characterization and its controversial depiction of the ancient Persians." The best part of this movie is the story it is trying to tell. A small force of men standing their groung against an army 3000 times larger. As a man I did enjoy the battle sceens. On the down side as with most all Hollywood movies, the director found fight sceens and special effects to be more important than historical facts. If it is historical facts you desire then grab a copy of "The 300 Spartans" or "Last Stand Of The 300". If Hardcore action, fight sceens and all out blood bath movies are your thing than this movie is for you. I own All three Spartan movies. Two for history, and this one for FUN.
By now, everyone nows already what's it that attrracted so many to this movie: The battles scenes. Forget about the ketchup and fake blood, and start to enjoy the very well planned angles and concepteds scenes. This is pure action. No intended to be historic, the movie is just plain fun. Epical and very graphic battles, lots of blooderings assaults and deaths, great villains and soldiers, the movie is unappolegetic on the over-the-board violence, and the great thing about it is that it works!! Many generations of teenagers will enjoy it, and the fathers will too, with the excuse of: "Look what my son is watching" (but just loving it too).
An interest in history & "positive hype" had me looking for this DVD. I enjoy "period" films & this is generally well done, w/ awesome cinematography.
It's blood filled, but of course a story treatment of historical battle w/ overwhelming odds!Dialogue is not a strong point, but visually it's intense! ("Lord of the Rings" buffs like me will see familiar faces)
Violent and bloody, "300" provides a unique view of Greece during the time of the Medes and Persians. The film follows the three hundred Spartans and their fight against the infinitely vast Persian Empire, at the Battle of Thermopylae. An all-star cast lends credence to this recounting of a historical period know for war-mongering and a people renowned for their discipline and skill in battle. The visual effects are stunning and the musical score is fantastic! Unfortunately, this film is not for the faint of heart. With brutally vicious and bloody battle scenes, the violence of this film can sometimes overwhelm the story line. Over all, though, it is an excellent movie.
What can I say, I ordered this video for one reason; Gerard Butler. Although I really don't like his 'buffness' - prefer natural guys, he does have great legs in the movie :-) & does a fantastic job playing the character. I understand that it's a battle movie, but there was great chemistry between he & his 'queen' & that should have had much more air time than it did.
The movie arrived as it was advertised: new, unwrapped & in the box.
I bought this DVD called "300" because I had seen the movie in theaters and was blown away by its special effects. The war scenes are very realistic and there is a sense of pride that one gets when you associate yourself with the "Spartans." I have no regrets or complaints about purchasing this DVD and I would recommend it to anyone who likes good action.
I ordered this DVD for my 17 year old son. He likes it very much, but he likes anything with fighting and violence. I do not recommend this video for younger kids as it is violent and has bad language and some graphic scenes. The storyline is interesting.
An epic movie which is an adaptation of Frank Millers comic of the same title, which tells the story of the 300 spartans led to glory by their king Leonidas.
The film had amazing cinematography! The cast were gorgeous and always love a classic love/action tale. If nothing else the beauty of the film attracted me most and leaves me feeling amazed after viewing it!
