Not only did I buy Snodsmith's UPDATED book, I've been a loyal listener of Garden Hotline for over 20 years.... I also bought his first edition of same years back, in the 1980's. Yes, Ralph Snodsmith is the answer man.... My favorite story he tells is of the lady who thought her rose bush was dead. Ralph went to her location and found out the answer to same..... She planted her rose bush upside down!!!!! He told that one on WOR Radio well over 20 years ago, and, one I'll never forgot. The thought of it still makes me break out in laughter as many others do the first time that they hear that story.... Back to the book...His books are educational to the novice and the experienced gardners. There's always new items appearing on the garden market, and, Snodsmith keeps updated on same, such as "IPM" which he explains in this newer edition of the Garden Hotline to be "Integrated Pest Management".... Not only that, there's illustrations that will make you chuckle. For an example, the raccoon sitting and eating an ear of corn next to the corn field.... Snodsmith also explains why the Hygrangea flowers change colors from pink to blue. Just love the drawing of the potted Christmas Cactus wearing ear muffs. Snodsmith explains why the drawing of the potted Christmas Cactus and why it is wearing ear muffs. On the serious side: The book is broken down to 5 different sections such as: 1) Indoors... Taking care of houseplants plus e methods to use when going on vacation plus plants that don't equire too much attention for one who loves plants waho does a lot of traveling. 2) Outdoors.... Includes tips on landscaping, watering, weed control, lawns, fruit trees, etc...... 3) Vegetables....Lots about indoor and outdoor vegetable plots and 3 topics on tomatoes plus you beeing the bee and how to do the pollinating certain vegetable plants, if required to do so, and what time of day to do same.... 4) General Horticulture..... Info on using windowboxes, soil testing, composte pile, containere gardening, plus cutting and drying flowers..... 5)Pests.... Which starts off with "IPM" plus his most quoted statement "Read the Label" when it comes to the gardening bug treatment to the wildlife who think people are growing plants and flowers just for them to eat, and, with some suggestions to sort of advising them otherwise..... If you're like me, you'll keep your copy of this book in your private library always and possibly even pass it down in your family as I plan to do with mine when my offspring get into gardening... And, when the newer versions come out, you'll most likely add a copy or two of them to your gardening library, too..... My offspring will be 4th generation gardeners in my family if they get the itch to garaden and want to get a green thumb, and, this is one of the books that should definitely help them with same..... For, it's loaded with answers from "The Answer Man." That's what I personally call Ralph Snodsmith..... OceanpegRead full review
