I just got this book and so far am very impressed with the amount of information and the wealth of recipes. She gives specific lists on what is allowable and what is to be avoided on the GFCF diet. She gives stories of other families and how this diet worked for their autistic kids. I would highly recommend spending the extra money to find the spiral-bound hardcover version because this will make cooking from the recipes much easier and will last a lot longer. She also includes forms to be able to track your childs reactions and progress before the diet and after it has been implemented. She has a good appendix with recommneded websites, products and books. You will not regret this purchase especially if you are transferring to a Gluten/Casein Free diet. Jessica
Another favorable review of Lisa Lewis' book on the subject of avoiding foods with milk and milk by products and wheat products on the health and behavior of children with Autism. Even if your family does not have a member with Autism it is a great resource for cooking for people with Celiac Disease. Great food and easy recipes to follow.
This book, like many others, gives the reasons why to do the diet. Along with many technical terms, it gives layman's terms as well. When I saw some of the symptoms my own kids have, I decided not only to buy but also to give this diet a try! While we haven't moved to all gluten free yet, my prayer is that someday soon we will and begin healing for my kids. The recipes are layed out very simply & look to be delicous. Give it a try thru your local library first & then buy after you see how good of a resource/cookbook it is.
My 3 kids all have special needs. This book is Terrific for people starting the GF diet! There is not only recipes, but the conversions are in there.Like insted of wheat flour use potaoe flour w/guar gum(at most health food stores). They also have tons of subtitutes that are readily available. This is a MUST have for anyone starting the GF diet. I would NOT recomend it for someone who has been on the diet for awile. It is a perfect beginers book!!
An absolutely MUST have book if you have a child that needs a gluten and casein free diet, or for parents of autistic children. My son is not autistic, but preservatives, colorings, gluten and casein seem to drastically affect his behavior. The information and recipes are EXCELLENT! You will not be disappointed with this book!
