Purchased on e-Bay as a used hard drive, but when it was installed it gave no indication of wear. It spun up almost silently and as it was recording the video on my security system there were no unusual sounds. The one that has been in there for four years does make some noises that are of concern, and that is my reason for putting an additional HDD in place.

I am building a large NAS system to hold backups of all of my computers and other important stuff. This Seagate drive is listed as compatible with the QNAP 8-drive system that I selected and is working very well (so far). The drive is quiet (as hard disk drives go) and does not seem to be getting too warm for the cooling system in my QNAP box (it monitors the drive temperatures and adjusts the speed of the cooling fans as needed to keep things under control). I have not fully loaded the drives yet (4 in a RAID5 array), but it passed the QNAP testing with no problems.

not as fast as an SSD, but a lot cheaper -- fine for backups or storage.
