I bough...t this phone because it is becoming harder and harder in Canada to buy a cellphone that is intended primarily for making and receiving phone calls. In Canada the carriers are allowed to lock phones they sell. The choice of handsets in Canada is very limited since there is no serious third-party market for unlocked handsets and no Canadian carrier is under any obligation to put any particular handset on its network unless the carrier has sold the handset. If a carrier in Canada refuses to activate a handset on its network, it usually will not provide any explanation. Canadian carriers want to sell smartphones and then charge very high fees for data: most smartphones use a lot of data updating the operating system and apps installed on the phone quite apart from any data usage intentionally incurred by the user of the phone. Most smartphones because the screens are so large have very poor battery life. A basic, so-called 'feature' phone usually has much better battery life. The key fact about this particular cellphone is that it is not specifically designed for use in Canada, where I live. As a result, it only recognized a SIM card from one of the carriers in my area. In fact, it is impossible to enter or even review contacts on this cellphone unless the phone has an active SIM card installed. Like many feature phones, the features are less than wonderful, but the phone part is fine. The phone is ruggedized, although not to the level of the much more expensive Sonim phones. The phone works well with a Nokia BH-602 Bluetooth headset (Bluetooth is under 'Applications' rather than 'Settings'). As a basic phone it is excellent. There is even a flashlight! It is possible to buy a screen protector for this phone which I shall be doing soon. The network I am using supplies the name of a caller even if the caller is not in the 'Contacts' of the phone. This phone does not support this network feature. I am fairly certain that the phone has better reception than many cellphones which tend today to be more focussed on features than on actually making and receiving phone calls.
...I bought the phone because I live on a farm and the life-style is hard on phones. Tractors shake a lot, phones fall out of pockets, people fall into creeks, etc. The phone is water, drop and shake proof (kind-of), better than almost any other. It also seems to pull in weak signals quite well. The battery life is good, not as great as advertised, I suspect, because they don't count listening to music, etc. in their tests, still, much better than most! I would (and will) buy another when this one finally falls out of my pocket and gets run over by the tractor. The only thing I have learned is that 8 out of 10 when used means used hard for a long time. Next time will be a NEW one. Still, worth then money, not an easy thing to say about things today.
I was looking... for a reasonably tough little phone that I could enjoy music from while riding my motorcycle, this phone fills the bill,it has a very tough case, and is water proof to a meter or so,meaning i can use it in the rain and dont have worry about dropping it in the sink or a puddle, the music playback quality is better than decent and it even has a flashlight built in, so tough and practical are some of its main assets, the camera works but pretty is low res and being water proof the external spesaker is a little muffled, while it accesses the internet fine, navigation is a pain (its no smart phone)battery life is 2 to 3 days on a charge with decent reception and reach, and free online software lets you connect to your computer to load playlists and online goodies all in all a great little phone with handy features and toughness not usually seen, while the price point for used ones is super reasonsable (I found mine for around $50) all in all and tough and feature packed step up from the basic cell phone, perfect for sometimes harsh enviroments and work areas
My husband is a dinosaur so I am replac...ing his recently-broken-but-much-loved waterproof Samsung phone with the same model because you really can't teach an old dog new tricks! He spends nearly every day on the water as a fishing guide so needs a reliable phone in case of an emergency. This phone is perfect for him. It's easy to use to make phone calls and has a camera. You can text with it but it's not quick nor easy to do so. The best feature of this phone is that the battery lasts for days and days and days without recharging and when the battery is getting low it beeps to remind you to charge the phone. Perfect, good quality phone for dinosaurs or for a back up to keep on a boat.
