This meter is a good meter, but you have to use it correctly. I take a soil sample, wet it till its slightly less than mud. Place the sample in a solo cup. Place the probe in the sample and slightly squeeze the cup as to place pressure evenly around the probe. The probe has to be in firm contact with the sample for a correct reading. If you have dealt with the old manual test kits, you will love this meter. When you first place the probe in the sample you will get a reading within a second or so then it goes back to 7 which is neutral. I found that it is because there is not enough pressure on the probe to "hold" the reading. So you will find with the proper pressure on the probe it will "hold" the reading. I place the tester in a few different spots to get a more accurate reading. The temp. function is dead on, although the probe is a tad short for getting readings in a deeper compost pile. Keep the probe cleaned after each use, and you have a tool that your grandparents would have loved to have in their shed!!!Read full review

The meter (at least the one I got) is probably a fake product. It always reads pH of 7. Even when not inserted into the soil. I tested on different types of soil from the patch in the woods - to sandy walk by the house wall - to regularly-fertilized and well-maintained flower bed - it's all the same, 7.0. Not even a slight variation! It's just not possible. Fertility is always flashing between 0 and 1. I even tested a sample from my compost pile, full of properly made, ready to use, mature compost - 0 to 1 it is. Temperature - well - it shows temperature of the air outside. Even that I have doubts about. It's hard to believe if it is 82 outside, then it's the same 82 when 5 inches deep into the soil. It has to be slightly cooler.

I am tenacous about having the pH in my soil exactly to the required specification of my plants. I have one of the two prong models from a different manufacturer and didn't feel secure about the readings. The RAPITEST 1835 Digital 3 Way Soil ANALYZER is awesome. I have faith in the readings. It's easy to use, easy to read the digital display, and I will purchase the product again should that be required.

Works good. Make sure batteries are good( New Batteries is best) before using. Only problem people have with this meter is not using it correctly. Just can't stick in any soil and expect readings. Soil must be dam or wet enough( Not totally soaked soil or dry soil) for you to get a proper reading. For best results use rain water or distilled water.
