The Pioneer receivers of the era when the SX-434 was manufactured were well built and solid performers. The SX-434 is no exception. Rated 15 watts/ch. into 8 ohms, this receiver will easily fill a small to medium room with warm, inviting sound. The FM tuner is what surprised me, pulling in many stations with a clear stereo signal and outperforming many other receivers in and over the same price point. The phono input, while not as quiet as more expensive receivers, did provide good balanced sound. All in all, if you're searching for a nice looking, solid performing vintage receiver for your den, bedroom, garage, or even living room, but don't have a lot of money to spend, the SX-434 might be a good choice.

This Pioneer receiver model line is my favorite for styling, top build quality, ease of service and beautiful sound. Paired with somewhat efficient speakers and in moderate to smaller rooms the SX-434 is impressive.
