This book is great for cooks such as myself getting into Asian cooking. The recipes are pretty simple to make, and the ingredients are pretty simple altogether. Most recipes call for similar ingredients, so most ingredients can be used for multiple recipes. With $20 you can buy most of the spices and sauces called for in most recipes. While the recipes are king of basic, there is incredible flavoring in the recipes. Most can be made in less than 15 mins. My one recommendation is to set up the spices and sauces so they are ready to go when you need them. I made the mistake of finding and measuring ingredients after I started cooking and it didn't go well. A little preparation goes a long way
I like the easy way to cook things. It would be nice though if we, here in the states living in small towns, could purchase some of the items that he likes to cook with. But I use what I have and use his recipes as a guide line. It has worked out so far.
If you want to learn Asian cooking, this is a great book for it. The previous review is idiocy. You review it for it's content, not because you live in rural GA and have a problem with the ingrediants. Get real. You or where you're from is the problem, not the book.
Borrowed the book from the library but didn't want to part with. I had to renew, return and borrow again, so I decided to buy the book. The recipes are truly quick and easy. I like the selection of food in the book, some you'd find in restaurants, and the family likes them as well. Ingredients are what you'd normally find in any oriental store, some even in regular grocery stores.
I have enjoyed the cooking tips and the way the receipes are layed out. Great food. Authentic Chinese Food (my effort)? I think that the Chinese Chef / Cook is a master with plain vegetables, minor amounts of meat (when available) and time honored spices. Making do doesn't cover it. Follow instructions and it is delicious. Thank you Mr. Yan for your effort.
