I bought this camera without much research. I had dropped my original 5 megapixel Kodak and needed a quick replacement. I was happy with it and decided to get another Kodak even though they have stopped making new cameras. A quick review of prices and features brought me to this one. It is very reasonably priced and has a German produced lens. It can be a little busy with all the features but I have used it to photograph for Ebay and close ups are excellent. I have noticed it has a infrared focusing and it can't handle focusing through windows too well. I have filmed some video and am very happy with the outcome. Overall I would buy the camera again.
I'm not really impressed with this camera over the cheaper models by Kodak.I bought this camera for its high megs. I thought this camera had crop option which it doesn't unless you go through the computer. Even the cheaper models let you crop a picture after you have taken it. Also the camera has no lens stabilization. So you really have to be still or use a tri-pod to have clarity in your pictures. If you zoom in on a picture you can really tell the difference if you have moved. This is my opinion you can try on out at Wal-mart on the display and see for yourself. Ras
The features on this camera are impressive for it's size and price, however, a lot of the features don't live up to the description. Such as, all of the low-light modes result in grainy shots and the sunset mode paints a yellow band above the horizon regardless of what color is actually there. As is true with just about every Kodak point-and-shoot, the best photos are those taken in bright sunlight with the sun at your back. This camera doesn't handle glare. Even in auto mode, some photos are washed out, some have a purple hue, and others are perfect. Some photos are "soft focused" (even when using a tripod so I know it's not ME that messed it up) and others are perfectly focused. And, what you see on the viewscreen after you take a photo is NOT necessarily what is on your memory card. I tried taking lighthouse photos at dusk, in a light fog, and the viewscreen showed beautiful results. When I loaded the photos onto my computer...they were black with just the lantern room of the lighthouse illuminated and none of the lightrays from the lighthouse were visible at all even though they were showing clearing in the viewscreen as having been captured. Also, my camera is refurbished so I don't know if the new ones do it but sometimes when I'm trying to select a scene and scroll through them, all of a sudden the highlight just starts going crazy and stops when it feels like it, not on a scene that I wanted. This has happened a few times now and the camera is less than 2 weeks in my possession.Read full review
I own a Sony, a Nikon, a Canon, and three Kodaks. The Kodaks are by far the friendliest, and brightest. The M580 has the advantage of an 8X optical zoom, which is 3X more than the M575, which I also own. It is a great little camera. The worst camera I have is the Nikon P100. Hard to focus, hard to learn how to use features. The Kodak Z990 is by far a better, big, digital with 25X optical and like the M580 takes bright, clear pics. The only bad thing with the M580 is the IR sensor for remote control. I have yet to figure out what it is used for. I bought the remote control for only $9.99, but the instructions for use are very poor. The camera users guide says very little and conflict with the poor instructions that came with the remote. Also Kodak is almost non existent in replying with technical assistance. Aside from that the M580 is a great buy and I recommend that anyone thinking of buying this camera, do so soon, with Kodak going out of the camera business. Right now the Ebay prices are fantastic for this camera.Read full review
Great Camera!! I use this in low light, daylight, florescent light, and it just works awesome. The camera can take great pics in action scenes as well, The shutter speed is great you can literally shake the camera and snap a shot and get a great pic. The quality of the camera is great and the pics it takes are even better. Just get it you won't be disappointed.
