I am amazed at how well this little action camera ...does. It performs better than I had hoped for and is so easy to use. For my application, I set it for One Button Mode which means I can just press the Power/Mode button on the front of the camera to start taking 1080p HD video clips whenever I need to and when finished just press and hold that same button for about 3 seconds and it will stop the video and power off the camera. Makes it so much better than having to press the Power/Mode button to turn the camera on and then press the Shutter button to start and stop taking video. I also like the fact that it accepts SD memory cards and I use 64gb cards in mine which is large enough to store many hours of video.

Old. 12 years or so. But I set my expectation ...accordingly. The camera settings control system GoPro engineers came up with is something that makes sense only to them. I mean, there ARE some logic behind the button pushing, but it IS confusing. You need to know the user manual by heart should you need to change its settings during a filming session.

The original ...GoPro HD Hero (V1) is at a sweet spot for price as stores are trying to clear the old version for the new V2. Expect to pay around $230AUD or less including postage for a new HD Hero V1. Also make the effort to ask the seller if the GoPro they are selling really is V1 or V2 as I have caught out a few sellers selecting V2 specs and placing them on their V1 description. If they have bothered to take a decent photo of the front of the camera they are selling you should see Hero2 printed on the front if they claim it is a V2. As far as video/picture quality is concerned, as long as you are outdoors when the sun is out you will get good results. Indoors video quality is really bad, even with all the lights on. Sound quality is also quite tinny (low bit rate). It's when you start comparing the video quality of the HD Hero2 on YouTube that you can see why the Hero2 is so popular - the video looks sharper and it's far better in low light situations. The latest firmware supports live video out while recording and the option to remove icons from the live video signal. Handy for using the camera on an RC copter / plane for FPV flying (which is why I purchased it). Even though I purchased the Naked version, it does still come with an adhesive bracket and spare clip for the waterproof case and a skeleton back plate. Even the display case it comes with could be used as a base connection on a surface with double sided tape. Changing settings does require looking at the manual to understand what the codes all mean, but once you have done it a few times you find you won't require the manual. So for what I need it for - perfect. However if you want better video quality and plan to do some serious video productions spend the extra $100+ and get the Hero2.
I lov...e this camera, for the first time my wife ask about videoing activites. We use it at the beach wet or dry, in our airplane, on our golf cart. My mind is racing what next we can get an eye view of. There's an attachment for anything. It's one button easy with high quality HD 1080p and forgiving as to the mounting or vibration recording. Add any type of software editing (windows 7 or others) and I'm like a professional videographer! It's rugged, water proof, small, easy and with a 32gig card you have hours of recording and the battery is long lasting.
First thing is it takes very good video. It is sm...all and light so it is easy to find some place to mount to get good angles. The case it mounts in is realy well sealed so no worrys of water damage. The battery lasted for well over over an hour. An almost phenomenal deal for the price. Now the not so good stuff the controls are confusing with just 2 buttons and a small lcd screen it takes time to learn how to even turn it on let alone adjust the picture settings. There is no way to see what you a recording until you get it back to a TV or a computer. For the money it does the job real well. I just look at the gopro 3 and 4 with there WiFi to control the camera and preview the shot and think of upgrading but you can buy 2 or 3 of theses for the price of one gopro 4. What it comes down to is yes there is something better out there but it is a lot more money and this one does a great job so is it worth the convenience for the extra money?
